Taking a late winter jaunt to the Caribbean, Mexico or the South Pacific? Lucky you. It’s tempting to return home with a telltale tan (or sunburn), but we want to stress that even though your mind and soul are on vacation your body still needs to practice sunscreen vigilance.

Vacation is the perfect time to kick up your SPF skincare regimen a notch or two, particularly with mineral sunscreens, a fave of BITB. One solution is Avène High Protection Cream SPF 50 ($21), a 100% mineral sunscreen formulated with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Providing broad spectrum coverage against both UVA and UVB rays, the cream is considered highly water resistant as it retains its SPF even after 40 minutes of water activity. A patented form of Vitamin E provides anti-oxidant protection while the signature Avène Thermal Spring water soothes and softens. For best results, apply the cream on face and body 15 minutes prior to sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours or as needed after towel drying, swimming or perspiring.

And for those of you who can’t make an appearance – even poolside – without makeup, Avène offers its High Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50 ($29). Like the cream, the compact contains 100% mineral sunscreen for full spectrum protection and Vitamin E to fight free radicals. It offers medium-to-full matte coverage while providing a highly effective buffer against the sun. Lightweight, creamy and water resistant too, the compact comes in two shades: Beige and Honey.

We all know it’s that time of year when sun’s siren call is strong. So enjoy your trip, but remember to protect your skin.
