I’ve been a big fan of Waterpik since I had my braces taken off a few decades ago. But I had one stuck under my sink for years and it was so big and cumbersome, that it rarely saw the light of day.

Enter the newest Waterpik Sidekick Flosser which is a huge step up. First of all, it’s literally a third of the size and so compact that you can take it with you anywhere or hide it in your desk drawer. It has its own discreet little charcoal gray zippered pouch and is even TSA-friendly. The new model also comes in your choice of 3 colors; white, rose gold and black.

Thankfully, this model doesn’t take up the kind of room of earlier renditions, so it fits easily on your sink counter top or bathroom shelf, even in a space-compromised New York apartment. The Sidekick takes a quick 2 minutes to set up. You just add some warm water to the portable cup that gets attached to the body of the device and doubles as a case. Plug it in and you’re good to go. It takes another few minutes more to use it once or twice daily to remove plague and debris in between your teeth and below the gumline that you can’t really see. Even teeny bits of stuff like kale, Rx Bars, chia seeds will meet their match.

According to celebrity dentist Brian Kantor, DDS, of Lowenberg, Lituchy and Kantor, “There is now a direct association with having an inflammatory response in your mouth such as gum disease to having an inflammatory response in the rest of your body such as cardiac disease, diabetes and a stroke. Thus having a healthy mouth can lead to having a healthy body. This product is a great way to increase the health of mouth by using it in conjunction with brushing, rinsing and flossing. The Waterpik Sidekick can help get rid of plaque, and food particles that can’t be removed by brushing alone.”

The good news is that the Sidekick has been clinically proven to remove 99.9% of plaque from the areas you use it on and 50% more effective at improving gum health than using garden variety dental floss.  It’s also safe to use if you have implants, crowns, bridges or veneers, so your dentist will be very happy.

Indeed, the nozzle sprays your teeth with warm water to loosen some of the shine-reducing residue that your toothbrush alone can’t really get to. There are 5 settings to choose from that go from gentle to uber powerful, which feels like a garden hose in your mouth.

So, if squeaky clean healthy teeth are your goal, you can’t go wrong with this handy tool. At $139.99, this can save you a bundle on future dental work.

NOTE: Waterpik Sidekick was provided for review. Opinions are my own.
