Meet the Dry Skin Crusader

Vicki Weaver-Payne, CEO and founder of Eight Body Moisture, takes healing to the power of eight with her bath and body cleansing and hydrating products. Composed of eight key ingredients and available in Ginger Lime and Lavender scents, Eight Body Moisture products are based on a formula perfected by Vicki’s mother during World War II. Growing up in a small town in Oklahoma, the daughter of a farmer/agricultural feed mill owner, Vicki was very familiar with home-grown food, clothes and remedies. When she became concerned about her own dry skin, Vicki started making her mother’s formulation herself and Eight Body Moisture was born.

Tell us a bit about your mother and how she came to develop the original Eight Body formula?

As long as I can remember, my mother always had a remedy for something. As children, we seldom went to the doctor, she would always come up with something for a chest cold, acne, sprains, deep cuts (that should have required stitches), etc. When she was working at Tinker Air Force Base during World War II, she actually met a woman who had this fabulous formula for dry skin. But because she always had to add a little more to the pot, she tweaked this lady’s formula and really came up with her own, which is now my Eight Body Moisture.

What’s your background? Were you in the beauty industry before launching the Eight Body line?

No, I have always been in the development business. I have a BS in Business and continued to graduate school to complete my MBA. So, the beauty business was new to me, but I knew what I wanted and knew what I wanted product to do on my body. I have learned a lot in the last five years and that is why it is so important to find a good lab you trust that can produce a quality product.

What are some of the key moisturizing ingredients in the Eight Body collection?

There are eight core ingredients: my base is Aloe Vera…..not water. So many lotions start with water as their first ingredient. Not good!! The other core elements are Vitamin E Oil, Jojoba Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Monoi Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Emu Oil, and Apricot Kernel Oil.

Other essentials include Lanolin, Lavender Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Sunflower Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, and Avocado Oil.

All of my products have some or all of these essentials in them. My plan for all future products is to always maintain an essential oil base.

What do you feel are the causes of dry skin?

There are many causes of dry skin – aging, heredity, environment, traveling, sports, disease, medication, lack of care to the skin….just to name a few

Who is the Eight Body customer?

Anyone who has dry skin! I know you think that is a large market, but I have three generations using my dry skin products and it works. AND, of course, if you are dealing with dry skin conditions from some of the causes stated above, you are also a candidate for Eight Body Products.

Can you tell us about new developments or upcoming Eight Body launches?

I do have several things in the works. I am waiting, like many others, to see what the economy will do. Because I am a new line, many retailers do not want to take a chance on me. They want to play it save and stick with what they know has sold for them for years.  People are asking and wanting to see something new. So right now it is kind of a Catch 22 for Eight Body!!!

BUT I do have a new fragrance ready to come out in my Body Moisture. I have my scrub in Lavender ready to go, as well as a nourishing hand cream. I am working on a candle.  I love the soy candle in my Ginger Lime fragrance. I have a sample of it and it is to die for.  I also am working on an Eight Body Moisture soap. I was always a soap person until I developed my Crème Body Wash with 10 essential oils. I will probably never use soap again, but I realize some people like soap, so I am in the process of developing one with my essentials.

What’s in your bag?

I use Eight Body Moisture Products on my body exclusively.  I try to do my complete hydrating treatment daily: Dry Brush, Crème Wash, Sugar Scrub, Body Moistur – creating The Ultimate Skin Rejuvenation System.

I also use my Body Moisture on my face in the winter when it is very dry. I have a lot of customers who do the same. But because I have a T-Zone complexion and am still prone to break-out, I am an Obagi face care user. My eye product is La Prairie as well as my foundation. My makeup is just whatever I have in my drawer, BUT would really like a make-over!!!

What’s your favorite bag?

I love all the wonderful choices out there, but am not one to spend the dollars for that Marc Jacobs, or whatever. I usually buy a purse once a year. Now I carry a Donald Pliner and I love it. It is on its third season and people still stop and ask me where I got that FABULOUS purse.
