Here’s a news item that couldn’t be more perfect for Beauty In The Bag. According to a new study conducted by the UK’S Debenhams department store chain, British women carry a staggering 256 pounds Sterling worth of makeup in their handbags every day. That’s an astounding $414 in U.S. currency.
The study found that 13 key products comprise the average cosmetics bag, with each item costing roughly 20 pounds ($32.35). Mascara was the number one “must-haveâ€Â product with 95% of women saying they wouldn’t go anywhere without it. Fragrance and foundation were also handbag necessities, with 79% and 76% of women, respectively, saying they always carried these staples.
The survey also revealed that women aged 18 to 25 years old carried the most makeup, while the makeup in the bags of professional women between the ages of 35 and 44 years was worth the most.
“British women are renowned for their love of beauty products as shown by the weight and worth of their well-stocked makeup bags,†stated Ruth Attridge, spokesperson for Debenhams.
As for women in the U.S., the stats are yet to be determined, but we at BITB suspect that our love of makeup will be on par with our UK sisters.
