THE BEST OF BEAUTY & MORE FROM NYC….THE DESK OF DORENE
It’s oxford season in New York City. From Soho to the Upper West Side, women across the island of Manhattan are celebrating spring by sporting this new footwear trend. Tan, black/white, camel and the occasional taupe tie up have supplanted the classic easy wear flat. A trend originally seen at the fall/winter 2009 runway shows, the oxford has finally taken hold and personally I’m delighted for the change of pace.
As for beauty, I find a bevy of upcoming launches refreshing as well. Stay on trend by watching Tom Pechuex, runway makeup artist darling and former makeup image creator of Shiseido, who is now the creative makeup director for Estée Lauder. His first collection, an overhaul of Lauder’s Pure Color range, is due this spring. Look for a strong fashion forward color statement.
Party girl designer Nicole Miller’s new fragrance takes its cue from Celtic legends with ancient knots adorning the wing-shaped bottle. Inside: a modern chypre scent–ahead of the trend and totally feminine. Launching in April exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Orlane’s upcoming Anagènese line gives new tools to woman 25 to 35 years to help keep aging at bay. Formulated specifically for this age group, the three-product line from France uses pro-growth hormones to invisibly slowdown the maturation process. The formulations are delightful to use and touch. Watch for Anagènese debut at Neiman Marcus in May.
And a few new trends to indulge in now…
On the market for just one year, Votre Vu is the highest-quality skincare sold through direct marketing that I have ever seen. Think La Prairie at Clinique prices. Developed by a French laboratory that specializes in spa and esthetician treatments, Votre Vu now offers face, body and hair care products to the U.S. market. Loyalty programs encourage splurging on such delectables as Les Sorbet, an anti aging treat of marine elastin, vegetable peptides, hydrolyzed collagen and vegetable broth that arrives frozen at your door!
If your skin like mine needs a bit of a pickup try Origins new Youthtopia SPF 15 ($26.50) foundation. An anti-aging formulation with Rhodiola, an herb linked to longevity, Youthopia is said to provide real tightening and lifting benefits over time. The firming formula is available in eight shades.
And for even more revitalizing benefits, the Neutrogena Clinical products use a two-part system, comprising ion-mineral conductors, to smooth lift and protect collagen depleted skin. The range includes a serum, SPF moisturizer and eye cream as well as a starter kit and night treatment system. Serious anti-aging skin care at drug store prices.
