Women’s breasts get a lot of attention but none more so than each and every October. As you’re no doubt aware, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness about this disease and also raising funds to help support those affected by it. It needs our attention year after year because the alarming stats speak for themselves. According to Breastcancer.org in 2016, an estimated 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 61,000 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. That’s approximately 1 in 8 US women that will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Clearly, this is a cause that’s hitting too close to too many of us.
If you want to do something about it, know that there are numerous ways to help. You can donate directly to a cause, volunteer your time to a charity, join a fundraiser, start your own fundraiser, or shop. By purchasing “pink” products you will do more than just treat yourself to something special — you’ll also do your part to support breast cancer fighters, survivors and charities that raise funds for research. Here, our curated picks to help the cause:
Estée Lauder “Pink Perfection” Lip, Eye & Face Palette ($35) comes complete with all you need for eyes, lips and face, plus 100% of the suggested retail price will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.com) through June 2017.
Londontown Lakur ($16), a botanical-based nail treatment and color line that improves nail quality with every application. Ingredients include chamomile and cucumber extracts, rapeseed and evening primrose oils, vitamins A & E and more. During the month of October, 50% of proceeds from the sale of all pink shades will go to the Young Survival Coalition, an organization that aims to help the approximately 13,000 women under age 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. It provides support and health information to see them from diagnosis to long-term survivorship and addresses issues like early menopause, effects on fertility, more aggressive cancers and lower survival rates.
