With so many sunscreen options, it can be hard to decide which one you should get, right? The most important things you want in your sun protection should be right there on the front of the bottle or tube (i.e. “broad spectrum” and an SPF of 30 or more)—but as soon as you take a gander at the back or carton, it’s easy to get confused and find yourself going down a UV-lit rabbit hole.

With summer just days away, here are a few other boxes you’ll want to check when shopping for your 2017 sunscreen:

  • A sheer finish with no white residue
  • A non-greasy, fast-absorbing formula
  • Enriched with antioxidants (because SPF doesn’t protect against free radicals)
  • Extra hydration
  • Water-resistant

If you don’t want to read all the fine print, we’ve done the legwork for you—and ZO Skin Health’s Oclipse Daily Sheer Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50 meets all the above criteria for both your face and body. Designed for daily use yet powerful enough for a day at the beach, this advanced formula goes beyond shielding your skin from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays.

HEV (high-energy visible) light is another one of the sun’s ray to be weary of, and in addition to making the sky look blue, this light is also emitted by electronic devices such as computer screens and smart phones. And if eye doctors and other health specialists are worried about the long-term effects of HEV, you should be concerned about its impact on your skin as well—but Oclipse Daily Sheer has you covered.

IR-A (infrared) rays are yet another potential threat to your skin and its youthful appearance. This type of solar ray has been found to penetrate deeper into the skin than UV rays—and they account for roughly half of the sun’s rays that reach the Earth’s surface. (For comparison’s sake, UV rays only make up about 7%.) Studies have shown that IR-A rays have a detrimental effect on collagen, so if you want to shield your skin from this wrinkle-causing radiation, get Oclipse Daily Sheer and consider yourself protected.

As for antioxidants—which are essential for preventing the aging effects caused by free radicals generated by the sun, pollution and other environmental factors—Oclipse Daily Sheer features ZOX12™, a proprietary time-release antioxidant complex that fights free radicals for 12 hours. In addition, the formula includes hydrating glycerin to replenish the skin’s lipid levels and promote optimal barrier function. It also ticks the aforementioned water-resistance box with protection that stands up to swimming and sweating for 80 minutes (but remember you have to reapply to maintain any sunscreen’s effectiveness).

Still not sure which sunscreen you’ll be applying each and every morning this summer—and well in to fall? Cross this item off to your shopping list with the latest sun-protection advance from world-renowned dermatologist Zein Obagi, MD and move on to other things!
