Frustrated with the cumbersome process of booking beauty appointments—you know the drill, you call various salons to find your desired stylists and time slots not available and end up with an unknown and a disastrous hair cut—Melody McCloskey joined forces in 2011 with her Current TV colleague Dan Levine to found StyleSeat, an online marketplace for beauty and wellness services. Prior to StyleSeat, Melody led digital distribution for Current TV. With more than 250,000 stylists in over 15,000 cities across the U.S. and more than 5 million beauty appointments booked in 2013 through StyleSeat, Melody has not gone unnoticed by the press. She has been named one of the Top Women in Tech
StyleSeat, a genius beauty booking app and website, gives you immediate booking access to more than 250,000 stylists in over 15,000 US cities. For our newest Gorgeous Giveaway, this online platform has generously partnered with Beauty in the Bag to give one lucky reader a $100 gift certificate, which can be applied toward an appointment with any StyleSeat beauty specialist.
The way StyleSeat works is that you simply sign up, type in your location, desired service, and date, hit search, and the program will list available stylists and times. Services range from haircuts and makeup to massages and manicures.
The online and mobile platform serves both sides of the marketplace. StyleSeat

Beauty Guru Michael Fredo
“I see creativity in every aspect of my life,” says this week’s beauty guru, Michael Fredo, a singer-songwriter and now salon owner of The Michael Fredo Salon in New York City’s Upper East Side. Celebrating its grand opening in September 2011, the venue is NYC’s first theatrically-inspired salon. Not only does it offer a full range of hair and makeup services, but it features the gentle tinkerings and vocalizations of Michael himself. In many ways creativity is a birthright of Michael, who is the nephew of fashion force Tommy Hilfiger. “I’m very excited to translate my vision of beauty and elegance to The Michel Fredo Salon,” he says.
