That innocent bystander on your sink—the hand soap—now is getting its due. Several brands are introducing beautiful varieties that now are on par with shower gels in their look and feel, and certainly in their ingredients. Since hands get extremely dry with repeated washings, hand soaps by nature tout “moisturizing” benefits like a Superbowl commercial. Here are some we love:
L’Occitane Verbena Cleansing Hand Wash ($20)

As we become more conscious about the products we use, especially those for our face and body, we are turning more often to organic and natural items. Right now, the hot item is bamboo.
You might not know that bamboo is actually giant grass. In fact, it’s the fastest growing member of the grass family – and also the largest. Some species can grow nearly 40 inches a day and there are whole forests of bamboo covering thousands of acres in Southeast Asia.
The stems are hollow and the harsh fibrous woody substance is absent, which means that it can be used for a variety of health and beauty products, like those listed here.
SOFTSOAP NUTRI SERUMS BODY WASH – I love me some body wash. As a recent convert from bar soap, I am ready to try any reasonably priced liquid version I can get my hands on. At the moment I have three in my shower, including Axe, Dove, and now Softsoap, and each has its own merits. I just happen to like variety in my routine, as evidenced by the massive accumulation of bottles and tubes on my shelf. Softsoap’s formula has these suspended Softening Serum Pearls that remind me of science class, and a very light fruity scent that isn’t overpowering. I like to get the most mileage out of soap, so when I’m done using this in the shower, it doubles as a handsoap. Voila – a two for one special!Â
FINAL VERDICT – BOB (BEAUTY ON A BUDGET) – At just about $4.00 per bottle, you really can’t go wrong here.
