Pantone announced the color of the year — Marsala — to mixed reviews. A far cry from last year’s happy easter eggy, springtime-like Radiant Orchid, Marsala is a muted, earthy toned shade that resembles mulled wine. Also unlike some of Pantone’s previous choices, such as Emerald Green and Tangerine Tango, Marsala is very wearable and uber flattering.

For the last twelve years, global color authority Pantone has declared a color of the year, chosen to reflect the times and forecast trends. The 2012 Pantone Color of the Year is Tangerine Tango, and it’s bringing a proverbial pop to the beauty world. Pantone’s pick was selected to convey optimism and energy, and cosmetics companies are all over it for its surprising versatility. Sephora loves it so much that they collaborated with Pantone for a special line in celebration of the color. Tangerine Tango can skew young and trendy or sophisticated, and the orange/red hybrid flatters every complexion. Where to start? This orangey-red might look daunting to women who typically play it safe wit
