Each October, pink ribbons come out of the woodwork, but women at high risk for breast cancer, those living with breast cancer and the doctors who treat them – including reconstructive plastic surgeons – think pink all year long.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and serves as a good time to reflect on advances in treating breast cancer over the past year.
There have also been some major innovations in breast reconstruction techniques and technologies in 2018 including a movement to save the breast, when possible, says Margaret S. MEET DR. BOB BASU: HOUSTON AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGEON

Dr. Bob Basu graduated Magna Cum Laude with High Honors from Princeton University and received his M.D. and Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degrees from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.
He completed his general surgery training at the prestigious George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and his training in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery at Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine.
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Basu’s medical research focuses on analyzing outcomes in cosmetic plastic surgery. He believes nothing matters more than patient safety.

MEET ALEXES HAZEN, MD: DIRECTOR OF THE NYU AESTHETIC CENTER

Dr. Alexes Hazen is a board certified Plastic surgeon and Director of the prestigious New York University Aesthetic Center. She also serves as an active Board Member of the AiRS Foundation, AiRS is a non-profit organization that helps women with reconstructive breast surgery after breast cancer.
She has researched developing 3D animation and surgical simulation to help educate both patients and residents regarding surgical procedures. Dr. Hazen has also done research focused on lipoaspirate. She developed an animal model to study lipoaspirate as well as an animal model to study radiation damage.

MEET DR. KAMAKSHI R. ZEIDLER: BAY AREA PLASTIC SURGEON & FOUNDER OF AESTHETX

Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler is a board certified plastic surgeon in San Jose and greater South Bay Area. She has authored numerous medical journal articles and lectured nationwide. She is one of very few women surgeons in the Bay Area formally trained in microsurgical breast reconstruction; her specialty is aesthetic plastic surgery of the face and body. Dr. Zeidler’s philosophy is to create a fantastic but natural appearing final result.
