A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME

Roses – symbols of love, adoration and passion – are practically synonymous with Valentine’s Day. But did you know that roses also are endowed with therapeutic properties that make them especially beneficial to the skin and ideal for skincare products. Rose oil, both moisturizing and a free radical fighter, derives from an ages old extraction process that originated in Persia centuries ago. Today, it takes about 2,000 flowers to produce one gram of oil. But price is no object when it comes to beauty and Valentine’s Day. So get your sweetie to check out the list below or treat yourself to a rose infused gift.

THINK PINK – BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Every year an estimated 230,480 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and nearly 40,000 die from it, including my grandmother and two aunts. So I’m delighted to round up some great products whose companies donate a portion of sales to aid cancer research during the month of October – National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let’s start by saying thanks to the grand dame of cosmetics, Evelyn Lauder, for founding The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in 1993. So please put your money where your heart is and make sure to do a weekly self-breast exam and have an annual mammogram. For more information on the subject, please visit www.cancer.gov.

WELEDA LAVENDER RELAXING BATH MILK – AAAhhhh….drop a few capfuls of this marvelous elixir into a warm bath and melt away your stress. Weleda is one of those little known brands that shows up at healthfood stores occasionally and is found in pharmacies in Europe. The quality is superb and the price is usually very affordable. No fluff – no fancy names or spiffy packaging – just pure aromatherapy the way nature intended it. Take a whiff and you’ll know it.
FINAL VERDICT – GGI (Gotta Get It) – Treat yourself ladies!
