Though they’re a great option all year round, stick makeup is especially useful during the less-is-more season. They’re travel friendly, spill-proof and multi-tasking, but the best thing about them is that they’re a real timesaver. You can perfect your skin, play up your favorite features and be done in just minutes. You can play around a bit to find out what works best for you but you can swipe them on straight from the tube, or use your fingers, makeup brushes or applicators to apply. Ready to get minimal?

  1. Even out your skin with foundation. Apply to your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and gently buff into your complexion using a foundation brush. Start with a thin, shear layer and build up from there only where needed.
  2. Sweep your eye color along your upper and/or lower lash line and gently blend with your fingertips.
  3. Add a coat of mascara to eyes.
  4. Apply color to the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards.
  5. Finish with a touch of color on lips.

The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder Pore Vanishing Stick ($28) glides on easily to blur and minimize pores, shine and oil. Wear alone, as a primer under your makeup, or over your makeup for touchups throughout the day. Non-pearl Optics diminish the appearance of pores, while oil-absorbing powders keep shine and excess oil at bay.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick ($44) is formulated with olive extracts, shea butter, light diffusing powders and minerals to moisturize, perfect and reduce shine, regardless of the weather. To use, simply apply and blend with fingers, a sponge or a foundation brush and build up additional coverage only where needed. It’s creamy, weightless and blends seamlessly so you look completely natural and radiant. Available in 31 shades so there’s something to suit every complexion.

Laura Geller Easy Illuminating Stick ($26) is available in Etheral (a luminous pink), Ballerina (a peachy-bronze) and Gilded Honey (a shimmering gold). Wear them on bare skin or over your foundation for a hit of radiance. You can apply to the tops of your cheekbones, your lips, the bridge of your nose, your cupid’s bow — anywhere and everywhere you’d like some extra light to shine. They are long-wearing, oil-free, moisturizing and gorgeous!

Nars The Multiple ($39) has reached cult-status for a reason — it blends like a dream thanks to its velvety-textured formula, comes in matte and shimmery shades and can be used on eyes, cheeks and lips. You’ll want to use it to blush, bronze, contour, highlight and color whatever area can use a bit of brightening.

Flower Kiss me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby ($10) easily adds a gorgeous glow to cheeks and lips and affordably priced so you can get all five flattering-for-all shades. Made with spherical silicone powder to gently diffuse light and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, this self-sharpening jumbo crayon supplies sheer to build-able full coverage.
