Amanda Gabbard, beauty expert and makeup specialist at the Guerlain Spa in the Towers of the Waldorf Astoria New York — “We often have a thin layer of dry skin over our lips that prevents color from staying put. To avoid this, when brushing your teeth gently run the toothbrush over your lips. Do this after you have rinsed and brush lips while they are still moist to help slough off dry or uneven areas of the skin. It is a better alternative to picking the dry areas which will cause more problems. When applying lipstick, use a light lip balm then apply a lip concealer such as the Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift. This will act as a base to hold the liner and lipstick on — like using primer before the foundation. After using a lip balm, apply a light-colored lip liner (I suggest Guerlain Bois de Santal #44) around the lips. Avoid using dark lip liners since they tend to make lips appear thinner. Now that the lips are primed and ready to go, apply lipstick and dab a light layer of gloss over. My favorite optical illusion trick is to outline the lips with Guerlain’s Precious Lights Highlighting Pen (or use Lingerie De Peau Concealer Compact). Gently dab a Q-tip and enhance your pretty pout with a lighter hue around the lip’s outer edge.”
