If you’ve noticed this strange sounding miracle ingredient popping up in many beauty products of late, there’s a good reason for it. Micellar water is an ideal way for those with normal to dry and/or sensitive skin to gently and effectively remove makeup, cleanse, refresh, protect and moisturize, all without stripping skin or leaving any oily residue behind.

Micellar water is made up of very small cleansing oil molecules that are suspended in soft water. These molecules are specifically attracted to dirt and oil, so they draw out impurities without stripping the skin of its own protective oils so it easily maintains its lipid barrier. You’ll love that there’s no harsh rubbing, scrubbing or rinsing required and skin is left clean, dewy and glowing.

*Do note that if you have very oily skin or wear a thick layer of oil-based foundation you’ll benefit from using a traditional foaming cleanser  before finishing the job with a micellar water product, but everyone else will benefit from using it alone.

Wondering if you should give it a go? HELL YES!

Elemis Smart Cleanse Micellar Water ($39) utilizes cleansing micelles, derived from Apple amino acids, Rosehip Seed oil and Indian Soapnut to lift and clear away impurities from your skin. Because you don’t need to rinse, it’s easy to use when traveling, at the beach or whenever and wherever you find yourself needing a quick cleanup.

Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water ($28) is formulated with Organic Grape Water to moisturizes and soothe, Organic Chamomile Extrac for anti-redness and Plant Glycerin for added moisture and skin softening properties. Use a cotton pad, this water and a quick swipe to reap the benefits. You’ll also love the uplifting scent derived from orange and lemon blossom, watermelon, and mint leaves.

Avene Micellar Lotion Cleanser and Makeup Remover ($32) should be used morning and evening. Formulated with Avène Thermal Spring Water to soothe, soften and calm your complexion, glycols to hydrate and micelles to release special cleansing agents that clarify skin leaving it silky-soft and hydrated. Apply in the morning and evening to face and eyes with a cotton pad and repeat with a fresh cotton if needed.

Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment ($45) gently yet deeply cleanses, exfoliates and conditions as it unclogs pores, lifts debris and pollutants, leaves you looking radiant and healthy, and perfectly prepares your complexion for any of your anti-aging ingredients that might follow.

Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water ($9) gently cleanses without ever over-drying so skin looks and feels and is perfectly clean and refreshed.
