The presents have been opened and the mistletoe stashed, but the holiday season isn’t over yet—and New Year’s Eve is here. Chances are your sparkly outfit is ready but what about your hair? Check out these tips for transitioning from 2012 to 2013 with belle of the ball style.

If you have longer hair, you are in luck; you can take the no-fuss approach to luxurious waves. Wear your hair in a braided bun during the day and when the clock approaches party time, take it out. Loosen up the braids with your hands and spritz with Sebastian Professional Trilliant ($19.95) to keep your hair shiny and your waves intact. Formulated with rock crystal extract, the product gently conditions your hair while providing heat protection. To create ultra-light body and shine, shake to blend and activate the Trilliant complex.

Kiyah Wright, Clairol Professional celebrity colorist and stylist thinks that big hair is the way to go this New Year’s Eve: “It’s all about body and waves,” she says. In order to keep your hair looking wavy and bouncy, try Clairol Professional Volume Mousse ($9), while Clairol Professional Shaping Gel ($9) will help shape and set hair for glamorous styles like a retro pin-up wavy look. Kiyah says, “This is a great look for holiday parties because it’s classic yet dripping with sex appeal.” Use the non-flaky shaping gel to add shine and all night hold without any stiffness.  If you’re not a mousse or gel kind of gal, there’s always Joico Power Spray Fast-Dry Finishing Spray ($19), which molds, shapes, and holds any style you want. It’s non-stiff formula lets you layer and rework your hairstyle over and over again for three days without that crunchy, crisp feeling.

Getting full-waves for New Year’s Eve may not be every woman’s dream look. We also love a good blowout. According to celebrity hairstylist David Babaii, “The right products and straightening techniques make it easy [to] keep that just out of the salon look.” Before working with your hair, use IT&LY HairFashion Pure Water Drops ($32.49), a serum that tames frizz and adds shine. It also has a lovely woodsy fragrance thanks to sandalwood and barley extracts. Apply just a drop or two by rubbing between palms and skimming over hair for enhanced shine. Blow dry hair with a large round brush until your hair is completely dry and straight.

And for ladies with shorter hair, don’t fret. Anne Hathaway’s new ‘do for her part in Les Misérables could be perfectly gamine for New Year’s Eve! The look is low-maintenance, which is great for busy ladies who would rather spend the time with family and friends. It frames the face so it’s flattering and once you let it dry, you’re ready to leave the door. To tame any flyaways and frizz, use Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum ($30) for extra sparkle. Argan oil, a source of antioxidants and vitamin E, naturally penetrates the hair to moisturize each hair strand, making your hair healthier, silkier, and shinier with each use.

Don’t let the disco ball outshine you at parties. With red carpet-ready hair, all eyes will be on you when the clock strikes midnight.
