POWER COUPLE: SOLTA PICKS UP SOUND SURGICAL
It’s a marriage made in heaven, and one that would definitely make the New York Times‘ Styles section!
Solta, the aesthetics company that brings us Thermage®, Fraxel® and Liposonix®, to name just a few of their innovative products, has purchased Sound Surgical Technologies LLC, the parent company of the VASER® line of non-invasive body contouring treatments.
Solta will shell out $25.5 million in Solta common stock and $5.0 million in cash to seal the deal. Talk about a dowry!
Those in the know say that the union should assure the company’s place as a leader in the aesthetics arena. Sound Surgical’s VASER Lipo® VASERsmooth™, PowerX®, and Origins™ and VASER® Shape system rely on ultrasound energy to work their magic. With VASERLipo®, the ultrasound breaks up fat before removing it via liposuction. VASER®Shape uses a combination of ultrasonic therapy and massage to get rid of unsightly cellulite.
By contrast, Solta’s Liposonix® uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to reduce fat around the abdomen and flanks. (If you can pinch more than an inch, look into it!). They also offer Clear and Brilliant® for laser skin surfacing, and Isolaz and Claro for the treatment of acne. The company’s Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is the Kleenex® of the industry. It treats a mere fraction of the skin’s surface to induce controlled wound healing, stimulating the skin to heal itself. Another of Solta’s all stars, Thermage®, is a non-surgical skin tightening procedure that uses radio waves to lift and firm the skin. It can be used to rejuvenate several areas including the face, stomach, knees, arms, and legs.
