Less than a year ago, I wrote about my love for everything French. I also wrote that I hoped the year wouldn’t pass without me finally getting to experience the City of Lights up close and personal. Well, I’ve got my ticket and I couldn’t be more excited!
Though this planned holiday is still a few weeks away I’m prepping by whittling down the long list of things I hope to do while across the pond. The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and Monet’s Giverny will certainly make the short list, as will sampling some scrumptious French fare like the almighty macaron and the delicious-if-you-don’t-think-about-it-too-much escargots. I plan on relaxing in the Champs de Mars, frequenting an outdoor market and checking out the fairytale-like Shakespeare & Co. bookstore.
Paris’ less-is-more approach is one I can easily get on board with. I’ll be packing lots of black and white items and indulging in pops of color for my accessories. I’ll be happy to spend even less time than usual on my hair, as the right products make it easy to master that sexy bed-head look. As for my makeup, the two looks I’ll rock are a simple red lip with little else and an imperfect smoky eye. It’s important to note that French women take impeccable care of their skin, so before doing either makeup look, I’ll apply a touch of concealer only where needed and then add a bit of highlighter to play up my features and give my skin a healthy glow.
Verb Sea Spray ($14) is the way to get tousled, unstructured waves or curls. Simply spray onto damp or dry hair and twist sections to define them before air drying. When completely dry, you can gently break up sections for the desired “undone” finish. The blend of Hydrolyzed Quinoa Protein, Sunflower Seed Extract, Green Tea Extract, Seaweed Extract and Kelp conditions, smooths, protects and hydrates.
Cover FX Enhance Click Highlighter ($18) should be applied to the high points of your face to give you a healthy, glowing complexion. Add it to your cheekbones, brow bone, and your Cupid’s bow to mimic the radiance of youth. You can also apply it to your body to highlight a particular area — try it on your décolletage, shoulders, and legs. Available in 9 glistening shades.
Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain Lip Color in Rouge Gouache ($36) will light up your smile. It looks like a gloss but lasts like a stain, and can be worn for a bit of color and shine for a natural lip look or layered for a bolder, brighter, shinier lip look.
Sephora Collection Easy Smoky Eye ($14) is a double sided eyeshadow pencil that takes all the guesswork out of the whole process of creating a smoky eye. To do, just apply it along your lash line and on your lid by using the pencil tip. Then use the brush tip to blend, blend, blend until you’ve got a smoky eye look that’s on just-this-side-of-imperfect.
NOTE: Color FX was sent complimentary for review. All other products were tested in store. Opinions are my own.
