A visit to the New York Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery in Great Neck, would not be complete without spending some time at the lush and pampering J SPA Medical Day Spa. Under the direction of Andrew Jacono, M.D., F.A.C.S, J SPA features a wide range of the most sought after age-reversing skin and body treatments.
An internationally recognized expert in the field of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with a flourishing practice on Long Island’s Gold Coast and in New York City, Jacono is a Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is considered a leading expert in his field, which is why television news personalities, socialites, editors, models, actors, and everyday men and women who are eager for some rejuvenating therapies seek out his unique expertise.
“My overriding goal as a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon is to deliver natural-looking results with minimal downtime, scarring, and risk. My practice caters to patients looking for a younger version of themselves. I dedicate 80% of my practice to invasive and non-invasive cosmetic procedures, including minimally invasive endoscopic facelifts, blepharoplasty, and rhinoplasty. The other 20% consists of reconstructive and revision surgery patients,” he said.
He continues, “Early in my career, I repaired the broken nose of a woman who said she had been injured in a car accident. Several months later, the woman returned a second time, claiming she had broken her nose in yet another car accident. I later learned that the woman had been living in an abusive relationship and her broken noses were the result of domestic violence. Since then, I have volunteered my time and resources to erase the facial scars of victims of domestic violence through the AAFPRS’ FACE TO FACE program, and I now serve as Senior Advisor.”
As a father of four, he is also passionate about helping children across the globe, and has been the plastic surgery team leader for Healing the Children for the past 8 years. “On these missions, we focus on repairing cleft lip and palate deformities on babies born with facial disfigurement. In 2013, I joined the HUGS Foundation to treat children with microtia (a condition where children are born without an ear) in Ecuador with my mentor Vito C. Quatela, M.D., F.A.C.S. The HUGS Foundation is a non-profit organization that delivers medical care to developing countries. On average, I spend approximately four weeks a year performing pro-bono surgery. My medical practice allows me to give back to those in need, which is one of my passions,” said Jacono.
“I am continuously evaluating my results, then innovating and creating new techniques to improve the outcomes and experiences I can offer. I regularly publish my findings in leading plastic surgery journals and then share findings at national and international conferences on facial plastic surgery. I am also always looking to gain knowledge from others, and exchanging ideas and innovations with leaders in plastic surgery all over the world. This allows me to incorporate the most state-of-the-art techniques available today into my practice. When you think you have nothing left to learn is when you lose your edge.”
His predictions for the next big thing in medical aesthetics? “Increasingly refined face lifting techniques and rapid recovery will continue to be focuses. As for those seeking non-surgical rejuvenation, expect to see advances in both injectables and injectable techniques, as well as expanded approvals for usage in other areas. As facial rejuvenation becomes more mainstream, you will see the median age of patients drop and the number of patients increase. There will also be a shift from rejuvenation to prevention as a leading reason for seeking treatment.”
New Yorkers are looking for understated, natural results which often times call for multiple smaller procedures and the preservation of facial tissue, rather than simply pulling and removing drooping areas of the eyes and face. New Yorkers are also trending away from simply filling their faces with injections, which with more significant aging makes the face look fuller, but not necessarily more rejuvenated. With the use of minimally invasive face and eyelid lift techniques, fat and muscles are repositioned for natural volume and identity preserving results. In other cities, such as LA, there is demand for a more defined plastic surgery “look.â€
Jacono doesn’t have a signature approach, because as he says, each face requires something different. “I believe in a customized multi-layered approach to restoring youth to the face. I perform many different types of facelifts and choose the one that best suits a patient’s goals, facial structure, and degree of aging. I’ve also developed minimally invasive facelifts that lift drooping cheeks and laxity in the neck with minimal incisions by using endoscopes. This technique lifts the face underneath the muscles, not under the skin, so the face appears soft and natural, not tight and stretched. In some patients, the face will lose volume, so I perform micro-fat transfers to restore the heart-shaped face of youth.
For those not ready for surgery, Jacono and his medical team offer non-surgical face lifting with a combination of Ultherapy, injectables and fractional laser resurfacing. One of his favorite new products is Voluma, which helps provide support to the cheek region which droops and deflates with age. The FDA studies show it lasts longer than most other injectables, which is an added bonus.
At J SPA, the go-to skincare ranges include PREVAGE and VIVITÉ, among others. Depending on a patient’s age, skin type, sun exposure, and goals, Jacono develops a custom skincare regimen. He believes also that drugstore brands can often be as effective as prestige brands, just make sure to wear a moisturizer with a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher. His signature J PAK Systems™ are convenient homeopathic remedies for use before and after aesthetic injectable and surgical procedures to help minimize swelling and bruising. Scientific studies indicate that homeopathic remedies like Arnica Montana and dietary supplements like Bromelain and Hyaluronic Acid can help minimize swelling and bruising and speed healing after surgery.
