Tomy chatted with Beauty in the Bag about the biggest beauty faux-pas, makeup must-haves, his favorite makeup look this season and more.
Here’s what he had to say:
1. What have you been working on lately?
I just shot a campaign in Japan for a new brush line with Carbon Fiber handles that is due to debut in the US early next year. It was really exciting because its a tool I could appreciate and play around with so the shoot was a lot of fun for me. I am a product junky so anything new in my industry I want to try!
2. What are the beauty products you turn to time and time again.
Bobbi Brown Foundation Sticks are truly all-in-one. You can build coverage or do a very light wash of color to your face. They’re instant perfection for your complexion!
Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum is a perfect prep before foundation. It adds a boost of Vitamin C, so your skin looks refreshed and hydrated.
Charlotte Tilbury ‘Sophisticated’ Eye Shadow Quad is a must have that works for almost every skin tone. It has complementary colors, a satin finish that blends easily, it’s long lasting without any creasing and it has gorgeous packaging!
3. What’s the biggest makeup faux pas you see women making?
The biggest mistake I see women making is using the same makeup wardrobe for every season; I can understand having a staple or two in your makeup bag but it’s important to try a new color and new color palette to keep your look fresh. Start by trying one new item a season.
4. What is your favorite Fall 2015 makeup trend?
Right now I’m loving a rich chocolate and berry brown lipstick look – a super sophisticated spin to the usual “Fall Berries” and very flattering to most women. It’s a playful lip in a classic way with a new age spin.
5. What’s a great makeup trend that also flatters a more mature woman?
The double eye lined look works wonderfully for a super fresh result. To do: Using 2 liner pencils, apply the darker liner to the lash base and a second thin line of an accent color liner. I suggest navy, emerald black and/or black violet to give the eye a pop without a “shadow look.” You also have more control to smudge it a little and make it a bit smoky if you like. This look is totally fool-proof and takes less than 5 minutes to do.
6. What’s next for you?
I’m gearing up to co-design and develop the makeup for the characters on Season II of ‘Mozart In The Jungle’ an original Amazon Prime Series.
