MEET GABRIELLE REQUENA: FOUNDER OF WRINKLES SCHMINKLES
Gabrielle Requena, founder of Wrinkles Schminkles, began to notice fine lines and wrinkles on her chest and started searching for a product to combat the signs of aging. After coming across countless lotions and creams for the face, she recognized that these creams alone could not treat other areas of the body. “I found there was a distinct lack of simple, practical treatments available for places like the chest – which can tend to act its age.â€
Created to generate hydration and stimulate collagen production from the inside out, Gabrielle and her team introduced the wrinkle-fighting silicone pads onto the Australian market in 2015. After three years, Wrinkles Schminkles continues to be a smooth success.Â
BITB spoke with Gabrielle about her inspiration for creating the skincare range, how it works and what products she can’t live without.
1. What was your inspiration behind creating Wrinkles Schminkles?
The inspiration behind our innovative Silicone Pad range to treat wrinkles came from trying to solve a real problem – those dreaded chest lines and wrinkles! Being an avid side sleeper and growing up under the harsh Australian sun, I started seeing signs of ageing on my décolleté in my early 30’s (Did you know 70% of women over the age of 35 have signs of ageing on their décolleté?!) and I quickly learned that all the creams, serums, lotions and potions on the market did little to treat this problem area. Finding a solution to this problem was further inspired by my French blood and half my upbringing in France leading me to adopt the French attitude to ageing gracefully. Et voila…Wrinkles Schminkles!
2. How does Wrinkles Schminkles work and what are some of your most popular kits and products?
Wrinkles Schminkles is a range of 100% Medical Grade reusable (20-30 uses) Silicone Pads designed specifically to treat décolletage wrinkles (our best seller ) and eyes, forehead, mouth, neck and hand wrinkles. You stick the Silicone Pad face down on the skin at night and the skin is kept taut so it can’t crease or wrinkle while the healing properties of the Silicone create hydration, moisture and bring blood flow to the surface of the skin, which can help to stimulate collagen production.
It’s worth noting, while we have a lighthearted brand name (well researched and speaks well to our consumers) there is proven science that sits behind the product range and delivers solid and unquestionable results after the very first nights use! Medical Grade Silicone is proven scientifically to heal and correct scaring and is highly endorsed by Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologist, and Skin Experts. We manufacture our range in the USA in a Medical Grade Facility which is really important when considering the application process on your skin. Some recent copycat brands manufacture in China where there is not the stringent regulation that is really important for the Medical Grade Silicone going on your skin.
3. As a skin care expert, you probably take great care of your skin. What is in your cosmetic bag and on your bathroom vanity?Â
I am religious in caring for my skin and love to share tips on products I’ve found that like Wrinkles Schminkles, actually work and deliver results.
Firstly, as well as sleeping with our Chest Silicone Pads, I sleep on silk pillowcases every night…they are very gentle on your skin, prevent sleep lines and are amazing to maintain a blow dry! My favorite brand is Slip Pillowcases and she is also a fellow Aussie!
Every morning I use a Vitamin C and Vitamin B serum on my face, neck and décolleté. I use one pump of each of the Aspect Dr range (another Aussie brand!) before applying the Aspect Dr moisturizer containing Resveratrol – an ingredient proven to reverse sun damage (also a key ingredient in our own Morning After Glow Serum).
Most nights I use a Vitamin A serum. I have been using Cosmedix Refine but more recently have built up my skin tolerance and am using the pure Vitamin A from the pharmacy.
And last but not least, my latest find is Dr. Denis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peel Pads. I use them at least once a week and my skin glows immediately after! It’s a great interim solution in between a visit to the Medispa, where I maintain my skin laser treatments and peels.
