LED – the acronym for light emitting diodes – is a low level light therapy that can have a profound effect on healing skin, so much so that they have become a staple in dermatologist’s and cosmetic surgeon’s offices to use post injections of fillers like Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra Aesthetic.

LightStim offers an Acne Light and a Rosacea Light that are specifically designed to address each skin condition differently. Blue light for blemishes has been used in skincare clinics for decades. Portable at-home LED devices use the same blue light found in dermatologist’s offices to reduce the bacteria that causes blemishes to erupt and can reduce the healing time for pimples you already have.

LightStim’s Anti-Aging Light combines amber, red and infrared LEDs to stimulate new collagen and elastin. When exact wavelengths of LED light penetrate into the dermis layer of the skin, that light energizes your fibroblasts to speed up their activities, which are responsible for the production of collagen and elastin. With more of these vital elements of healthy, young skin, the dermal layer can plump up and eventually starts to push the folds in the skin (wrinkles) outward and at the same time the skin tightens from the increased amount of elastin thus diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. LightStim’s Anti-Aging Light uses noninvasive amber- and red-colored light and infrared LED lights or infrared wavelengths to penetrate deep within the dermal layers of skin to engage fibroblast cells. As these cells are stimulated, collagen and elastin production is awakened and it can help shrink pores, fine lines and wrinkles are less visible and skin tone and texture improve. It needs to be used at least five to six times a week until you achieve the desired result, and then two to three times a week for maintenance. The downside like all home devices is that you need to be religious about using it consistently to see results. If you are are not committed, you should probably save your money because you won’t see much of an improvement. These units are safe for all skin types and have FDA clearance.

The LightStim systems are $349 each. lightstim.com
