Founded in 1994, the San Jose, CA-based Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc. (JMSR) is a recognized leader and innovator in skin care committed to growing and improving the professional skin care market. The JMSR team has relocated to a new, 40,000 square foot space in Silicon Valley, the center of technological innovation which seems somehow apropros.
CEO and Chairman of the Board, Jan Marini, is still at the helm, known as a true pioneer in the professional skin care market. In 2005, JMSR became the first company to market a cosmetic eyelash enhancement conditioner that was at the forefront of this breakthrough beauty category. Under her direction, JMSR has established a portfolio of proprietary and patented formulations as well as some exciting introductions, include the first lipid soluble vitamin C with a neurotransmitter factor, the first topical TGF beta-1, the first combination of glycolic, salicylic and Azelaic acid, and the first topical product with resveratrol.
In the UK, I had the pleasure of moderating several training courses in aging skin care for the JMSR team, at a time when no one else was all that interested in skin care education for beauty therapists, nurses and doctors. These all day Saturday symposiums featured leading plastic surgeons and skin care professionals and were standing room only. They were so popular, in fact, that we had overwhelming requests for the workbook we put together for attendees from aestheticians and doctors who could not attend. These courses became a kind of cult phenomenon in the professional skin care market which was in its infancy in the UK in those days.
Although many of Jan’s signature formulations are still in the range, one cannot overlook how JMSR has been modernized over the years! The packaging and branding is fresh and clean, and speaks to an updated outlook on the future of skin care with an underlying theme of clinical data.Â Most recently, Robert Weiss, MD, conducted a study on new patented growth factor and peptide anti-aging formulation and Leslie Baumann, MD, completed a consumer preference study comparing JMSRâ€™s C-ESTAÂ® Serum and Marini Physical Protectantâ„¢ to two leading competitors with significantly positive findings.
