There was so much to love at the Spring/Summer 2018 runway shows. Christopher Kane had floral and jeweled touches, Fenty x Puma showcased bright neon and body-con pairings, and Giambattista Valli’s models strutted down the catwalk in romantic offerings. Though they — and many other runway shows — differed greatly in fashion, they had on thing in common, an abundance of gorgeously highlighted skin!
Lit-from-within skin is trending in a very big way, and when done right it flatters absolutely everyone. Whether you get the look through shimmery, matte or dewy products, here’s how to nail it every time:
SHIMMER: Shimmery highlighters work by attracting light to mimic the look of naturally youthful, radiant skin, but keep in mind that less is more here — apply too much shimmery product and you run the risk of looking greasy. It’s best to start slowly and apply more if needed. You also don’t want to use it all over your face because if everything is highlighted, then nothing will stand out. Instead, play up certain features by applying it strategically. Here are your best options:
- Use it around your tear duct to make your eyes sparkle.
- Apply it to the upper, outer cheek area to play up your cheekbones.
- Dab and blend it under the arch of your brow for more definition.
- Swipe it down the center of your nose from bridge to tip to subtly slim and contour.
- Plump up your pout with a hint of it on your Cupid’s bow.
Make Up For Ever Pro Light Fusion Highlighter ($39) comes in Golden Pink for light to medium skin tones and Golden for medium to dark complexions. Use with a brush for the perfect natural-looking, radiant glow. You can also layer it for buildable color or a more dramatic look.
MATTE: If shimmer isn’t your thing you can also highlight your skin with a matte product, ideal for those who want their features to stand out without adding any shimmer or shine. Try just a touch of concealer two to three shades lighter than your skin tone and gently blend into the high points of your face.
Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer ($30) can certainly be used to hide imperfections but you’ll also want to use it to accentuate your cheekbones, temple area and the bridge of your nose. It is also the ultimate base layer for your favorite eyeshadow. Available in sixteen shades.
DEWY: You can also highlight by using a face balm on select areas or going for all over glow to create the illusion of having hydrated, luminous skin by mixing a drop of two of a liquid illuminator in with your usual moisturizer before applying.
Ciaté London Dewy Stix ($26) can be used on bare skin or as the finishing touch on top of your makeup. You’ll love the easy-to-use, super-convenient stick formula that makes it so easy to apply and includes skin-soothing Murumuru Butter and moisture-boosting Hyaluronic Acid. Available in Glow, Gold and Rose Gold.
