GYM BEAUTY: HOW TO LOOK GLAM WORKING OUT
When I go out for a run, I’ve got my hair pulled back, my glasses on and no intention of trying to look my best or even look presentable. When I step into the gym, it’s a whole other story. I’ve been known to wear a little bit of this or a little bit of that since chances are I’ll bump into more than a few people I know.
The experts say that barefaced is best when it comes to gym beauty but I’ve noticed most women have a little more than a post-sweat glow going on before they step into the gym. If you’re like me, and also on par with these women who feel they must wear makeup, here’s what you can get away with to look your best without clogging your pores and ruining your complexion or your gym credibility. The trick here is to look naturally fresh faced without wearing any makeup that could jeopardize your complexion.
These are my must-haves:
EYES:Â Stick with one coat of waterproof mascara only. One coat, applied properly is enough to define your lashes so they look a little longer, fuller and thicker but still natural enough without looking like you’ve gotten any product assistance.
Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara ($6.40) defines and conditions lashes without clumping or giving you raccoon eyes during your sweat session. To do, sweep brush from root to tip to coat once for a natural finish and more for a thicker, fuller fringe. Removes easily with eye makeup remover. Available in Very Black or Brownish Black.
Another lifesaver are waxy brow pencils that color in your bald spots and stay in place. Brows frame the eyes and without a definitive contour and color, your eyes won’t pop and you can look really washed out. Try the super slim tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Pencil ($22) that comes in 3 shades and lasts through Soul Cycle and beyond.
FACE: You don’t want to put any potential pore cloggers on your skin if you can help it so steer clear of foundation to let your skin breath and give the blush a break — If you work out hard enough to get your blood pumping, your complexion will have a natural rosy flush in no time. If you must cover up, tread lightly. Apply just a bit of concealer to erase dark under eye circles.
Benefit Erase Paste Brightening Concealer ($26) is a concentrated cream concealer that brightens the under eye area. Scoop a bit of product out with the enclosed spatula and use your fingertip to pat product from the outer corner of your eye to the inner corner before gently blending. Keep in mind that less is more here — a little goes a long way. It comes in three shades (fair, medium and deep) to suit virtually all complexions. Â *If necessary, can also be used on the face to conceal imperfections.
LIPS: Lipstick in the gym looks ridiculous, but tinted lip balm will give your lips a naturally gorgeous looking flush and keep them healthy to boot. Choose a shade that’s not too different from your natural hue — a rosy hue is good place to start and looks natural on all.
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm ($7) gives you just a hint of color and has a super conditioning formula chock full of shea butter and botanicals. You have 9 gorgeous, natural looking sheer shades to choose from. My favorites for the gym? The rosy-hued Pink Blossom (shown below) and Hibiscus.
