GET INTO THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT WITH RED, WHITE AND BLUE BEAUTY
Maybe you’ve already tucked away your Independence Day beauty picks. If so, take them out right now! With the Summer Olympics in full swing Team USA can always use more fans rocking some patriotic red, white and blue. BITB has some classic recommendations plus some that push the envelope.
RED:
There’s nothing crazy about lipstick in shades of red — It’s easy to find one great tube after another to choose. Ready to step out of your comfort zone? Ring your eyes with crimson instead. Celebrities like Selena Gomez, Kristin Stewart and Solange Knowles have been spotted sporting the look. You can let the color pop while keeping the rest of your makeup very minimal by lining your upper lids only, your entire eye or blending it out as a shadow. If you’re not one to stand out from the crowd, mix it with a bit of bronze shadow to get to your comfort level.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in American Doll ($20), a true blue red, is a full-coverage matte liquid lipstick with staying power. Swipe it on for color that won’t smear and stays put.
Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Silk Eye Shadow in Lust Red ($35) combines non-slick oils and high intensity color pigments for a bold, multi-dimensional finish. Color-Fil (a trademarked high resistance bi-polymer) is also added to keep it crease-free and perfectly in place for 24-hours. Use a dry eyeshadow brush to apply to lid or wet the brush and apply the shadow wet for higher intensity.
WHITE:
White makeup is easy to pull off by lining your upper and lower waterline and a major beauty benefit of it is you’ll look younger and wide awake! Another works-for-all white makeup look is applying a shimmery white pencil to the inner v of your eyes to make them sparkle, but if you desire to take on a more daring look and really get noticed, try an opaque white for a modern cat-eye.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Polyester Bride ($19) glides on seamlessly. This shimmery white with silver micro-glitter shadow blends easily, is crease-free and delivers long-lasting, high pigment color.
Kat Von D Ink Liner in Neruda ($20) knows how to make a statement in the easiest way possible — via a felt tip pen. To use, shake before using, swipe tip with a damp tissue and apply. It’s effortless, fade and run-resistant for up to 24 hours
BLUE:
Eye makeup in shades of blue is the obvious choice which is why you’ll find liners, shadows and mascaras galore. Why not take a walk on the wild side with blue lipstick. That’s right…blue lipstick is actually trending now and available in everything from a pastel blue to deep navy and everything in between.
The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder Metallishadow Crème + Powder in Wild Cosmos ($25) allows you to create a subtle, bold or customized look that’s all your own. The highly pigmented matte blue cream shadow on top can be used as shadow or liner and the sparkling navy metallic loose powder on bottom can be worn alone or layered over the cream shadow.
Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick in Midnight Blue by Icona Pop ($22) is a limited edition lipstick in a bold, intense, long-wearing, comfy-creamy formula that won’t bleed or feather.
THE PERFECT ADD ON:
If the classic selections above are more your style than our bolder picks, you can add to your team spirit with red, white and blue nail polish. Even better? Rock Jamberry Nail Wraps in Patriot ($15), Going for Gold ($18), or an assortment of other Olympic 2016 appropriate options. If you’ve never tried them, they are super easy to apply and just as simple to remove.
