GET A HAIRCUT, PLANT A TREE
On Monday, October 15, the international hair care brand Davines will give you a chance to get a haircut for a mere $15 donation and at the same time support a great environmental and humanitarian cause. From Vancouver, Canada to Orlando, Florida, more than 150 hair salons in the U.S. and Canada will be opening their doors to support the second annual Davines Sustainable Beauty Day.
One hundred percent of the donations collected on Sustainable Beauty Day will go to The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. This organization plants fruit trees in impoverished communities in developing countries to provide improved nutrition and long term environmental benefits. Last year, Davines raised more than $25,000 thanks to the participation of 54 salons. Through The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, the money went to planting fruit trees in low-income communities in Mozambique and at an orphanage in South Africa.

This year, Sustainable Beauty Day 2012 aims to raise over $50,000 to fund a fruit tree planting project in Brazil in February 2013. Once grown and yielding fruit, the trees are intended to serve as a direct food source for in-need communities.
The Italian-based Davines hair care company prides itself on its commitment to sustainability, giving back, and having a minimal impact on the environment. It strives to use ethically sourced ingredients for its products and environmentally-friendly materials for its packaging.
Participating salons are providing their cut and styling services free of charge, but will encourage clients to make a $15 donation. Click here to find a participating salon near you.
