Who doesn’t want a more divine derriere? Achieving an improved “rear view” is actually easier than you think thanks to smoothing and uplifting skincare solutions—plus long-lasting non-invasive and surgical treatments that help you make the most of your “ass”ets. Get it?
Faux: Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub ($16.95)
Step one of achieving a better butt is starting with a smooth canvas, and exfoliation is the way to get it. This aromatic scrub features hydrating sweet almond oil, antioxidant vitamin E, and a blend of sea salt and coffee grounds to slough away dull, rough skin to reveal a smooth, baby-soft tush. As an added bonus, the coffee’s caffeine is believed to help stimulate blood flow and flush out excess fluid and toxins that contribute to cellulite. P.S. This effective exfoliator is also available in coconut, cacao, peppermint and shimmery versions as well.
Faux: Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream ($45)
Brazilians take their booties very seriously, and this rich hydrator is formulated with a fruit called guarana, which is naturally rich in a potent form of caffeine that delivers the skin-smoothing benefits mentioned above. It also contains cupuaçu butter, açaí and coconut oil for maximum moisture that absorbs fast so you won’t have a problem slipping into your skinny jeans.
Faux: Nannette de Gaspé Uplift Revealed Tush ($175)
To give your derriere a more lifted look, consider committing to a series of masks. Before you balk at the price tag, this kit includes five weeks of tush treatments that discreetly adhere to the inside of your panties. Worn for 60 minutes every day for the first week and only two consecutive days over the following four weeks, these patches are infused with marine collagen, hyaluronic acid and a blend of natural butters and oils to enhance skin elasticity and firmness.
Pro: Sculptra Butt Lift
For those looking for subtle improvement without surgery, the FDA-approved injectable filler Sculptra Aesthetic can be used in an off-label manner to enhance the buttocks. According to Bonnie Marting, director of medical aesthetics at Anushka Spa, Salon & Cosmedical Centre in West Palm Beach, Florida, “This relatively simple process can be used to give the derriere a lift, create a Brazilian look with a lot of roundness and smooth cellulite.” Desired results dictate the amount of product that needs to be injected (the average is three to four vials per side), as well as the number of treatments. Marting says, “Patients get an instant ‘preview’ of the results due to the fluid injected along with the Sculptra, although the initial fullness dissipates after a few days. The collagen production prompted by the Sculptra become visible after three to five weeks, though full results can take up to two months. At that point, the patient and practitioner can decide if another treatment is necessary.”
She also says the ideal candidate is fairly small and has not lost more than 25 pounds over a short period of time—and in her experience, smokers don’t reap the full results that Sculptra is capable of producing. Patients can expect to experience mild discomfort for a day or two after treatment and minimal bruising. Results generally last for about a year before a touch-up may be needed. “The process is relatively simple and much easier than fat transfer,” she explains.
Just a reminder that injectable silicone is never a safe option for buttocks enhancement, or any aesthetic treatments for that matter. The FDA recently warned that this product used in an off-label way can lead to long-term complications, disfigurement or even death. Stay safe!
Pro: Buttocks augmentation via fat transfer
Fat transfer has proven to be a safe, long-lasting option for increasing volume, enhancing contours and improving the overall “rear” view. According to New York City plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Schulman, “The ‘Brazilian Butt Lift’ procedure removes fat from areas that you don’t want it and puts it into the areas that you do want it. This essentially offers a “two-for-one” advantage since you get the benefits of liposuction as well as the improvement from re-injecting that fat into the butt and hips.”
First, fat is taken from another area of the body (such as the abdomen) via liposuction before it’s reinjected in layers into the buttocks. Expect to have drains for up to a week, and you’ll be instructed to wear a compression garment for several weeks after the procedure. “It’s important to know that you cannot sit for at least 10 days and that you’ll need to sit on a pillow for eight weeks or more after that to avoid placing direct pressure on the grafted fat,” Dr. Schulman emphasizes. Bruising and swelling for the first few weeks is also common, and it can take up to six months to see the true results. But Dr. Schulman adds, “The good news is that advances in fat grafting have made it possible for most of the transferred fat to ‘take’ and remain for life”—however it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes proper diet and exercise to maintain final outcomes.
