EMMY AWARDS 2013: THE GOOD, THE BLUE & THE PRETTY
The dresses gracing the red carpet at the 65th Emmy Awards came in a rainbow of colors (emphasis on red, white, and blue), but makeup and hair followed minimalistic and classic approaches with subtle lips and graceful bobs. Here are a few of our fave Emmy beauty looks.
CLASSIC BOB
The verdict is still out on her Armani Privé gown, well, honestly, I’ve given it a thumbs down, but Claire Dane’s hairstyle fit the Homeland star and Emmy winner to a tee. Stylist Peter Butler used John Frieda Hair Care to give the actress a short faux bob that elongated her neck to swan proportions. He prepped her wet locks with Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Formula Hair Serum and Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse before blowing it out and using a large-barreled curling iron.
To create the faux bob, Peter actually pinned hair under at the base. The finishing touches came with a spritz of Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold and smoothing of John Frieda Frizz-Ease 100% Shine.
ETHEREAL BEAUTY
In contrast to her tough and tailored character in Scandal, nominee Kerry Washington sailed through the Emmy Awards on an ethereal cloud, afloat in a blush-colored Marchesa gown. “The inspiration came from the delicate dress,†stated makeup artist Carola Gonzales, who used Hourglass cosmetics to create romantic matte skin, stunning purple lids, and luminous cheeks. Carola applied Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation in warm beige because of its airbrushed finish, Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition (mauve and eggplant), and three coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.
“Although I like a matte finish, especially for awards shows, I added a radiance to her skin with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. It’s the perfect shade for Kerry,†stated Carola.
GIRL NEXT DOOR
Julie Bowen, nominated for her role as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, sported a healthy glow thanks to makeup artist Heather Currie and Neutrogena cosmetics. Inspired by Julie’s light pink Zac Posen gown, Heather created a fresh canvas with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup in Fresh Beige and then blended Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector in Light with Neutrogena 3-in-1 Concealer to apply under her eyes. A pop of color on her lips—Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Berry Bright—kept the look from being too washed out. And loving the multi-purpose nature of MoistureSmooth, Heather applied ColorStick in Fresh Papaya to Julie’s cheeks as a cream blush.
STEAL THE SHOW GLOW
Radiant redhead and Nashville actress Connie Britton emerged like a mermaid in her ocean blue Naeem Khan velvet dress. Fitting the deep blue theme, Connie’s skin received a radiant glow from Fiona Locke, tanning and skin finishing expert for St. Tropez. To get this affect at home use: St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Spray, St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion Face, and St. Tropez Tan Enhancing Moisturizer.
Her complementary nails, compliments of Essie and manicurist Beth Fricke, continued the sea effect. Essie Go Overboard (deep aqua) nail polish created a base upon which Essie Luxe Effects in As Gold As It Gets gradated from tips to base in a glam take on a French tip.
