I was out for drinks with a good friend the other day and the conversation turned to beauty, as it often does when we’re together. She wanted to know if she needed to use a serum in addition to her daily moisturizer, sun protection and night cream. If you are wondering the same thing, the answer is a big, bold YES…but only if you wants to tackle specific skin issues head on and boost your anti-aging results.

  • Start using a serum as soon as possible. They’re loaded with skin-loving, extra-potent ingredients to help protect, replenish and keep your complexion healthy and looking its best.
  • Choose a serum based on your specific skincare needs. Do you need to brighten, firm, smooth, protect or boost hydration? Choose accordingly.
  • Use a serum suited for your skin type. If you have normal to dry skin use an oil-based serum, For those with oily to combination skin, choose an oil-free, lighter formula instead.
  • Use your serum on freshly cleansed skin before applying your moisturizer in the morning and on freshly cleansed skin before applying your night cream pre-bedtime.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Anti-Aging Collagen Booster ($48) can be expected to firm, brighten and reduce fine lines on the face, neck and décolletage area in as little as 4 weeks time. The formula is oil-free and boasts a proprietary blend of vitamin C, green tea extract, sodium hyaluronate and vitamin E to brighten, boost collagen, protect, soothe, nourish and also bind moisture to the skin. It is ideal for those with normal, combination and sensitive skin.

This silky formulation helps to repair the skin, before and after cosmetic procedures from injections to lasers and surgery. It works with the skin’s natural regeneration process and assists in improving the skin’s appearance by supporting its natural ability to produce new, healthy elastin and collagen – the building blocks of youthful, firm, springy skin.

Dr. Brandt Glow by Dr. Brandt Overnight Resurfacing Serum ($86) contains a special time-released 2% Retinol Complex that will help smooth texture as it evens out your skin tone and softens the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and also diminishes the look of enlarged pores. The icing on the cake is that it will also help to alleviate redness and balance moisture levels. Use once daily at night.

Skin Inc. Chlorella Serum Brighten & Tackle Spots ($45) will help you on the road to the even-toned, smooth skin you’ve been coveting. This serum is loaded with humectants to hydrate, and chlorella, aloe and pueraria extracts for an added boost in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant protection. It’s formulated with organic grape water to moisturize and soothe, hyaluronic acid to help your skin retain moisture and grape seed polyphenols for protection against pollution and UV rays.
