PRODUCT: Chanel Inimitable Mascara

Mascara – along with undereye concealer – is my desert island must-have product. My lashes aren’t bad – long, fairly bountiful - but the tips are blond and the bottom lashes nearly transparent. So mascara becomes a necessity to frame and enhance my smallish eyes. But lately, many brands have posed problems, from irritation to molting to creating raccoon-like smudges under my eyes. Enter Chanel’s Inimitable Mascara ($30) in Noir Black. The formulation is lush and extremely easy to apply. It adds volume, length and curl and does so without clumping, separating lashes as it goes on. It almost eliminates the smudge factor, staining my lower lid only when I rub my eyes (gotta stop doing that!).

I’m a long-time Maybelline Great Lash fan. At approximately $5.00, it’s a great value and evenly coats lashes with an easy flowing formula. But, and this is a big but, lately it irritates my eyes, along with CoverGirl LashBlast. So while Inimitable is considerably more expensive, it gets my vote. It's reliable, non-irritating and feels luxurious to apply and wear.
