THE TOO FACES OF LOVE

TOO FACED LIP OF LUXURY LIPSTICK IN “FREE LOVE” – It may be the case that I have been working on the Upper East Side for too long, but this lipstick reminds of me the Juicy Couture set, who will eat it up. I had a pretty respectable collection of Too Faced eye shadows as a college student – I remember being particularly fond of a gorgeous dual eyeshadow palette that reminded me of a mermaid’s gills – but I digress. The cheeky packaging and feminine colors make the brand perfect for the teen to young adult age group, especially if you throw in a little something Juicy on the side. This light, frosty pink shade is a great starter color for a teen who may not yet be into makeup, and whom you’d like to keep your “sweet little girl” for as long as possible.

FINAL VERDICT –  ICW (IT CAN WAIT) – I fear I may have outgrown lipsticks with crystal embelishments, but then again, I’m no longer the target demographic.

GERDA SPILLMANN PEAU DE FLEURS CLEANSING MILK – Oh Gerda, how I wanted to love this product.  The packaging is straight out of a European Apotheke, suggesting a heady mix of hard science and good-for-you botanicals, a few of my favorite things.  The prospect of a mild cleanser suitable for all skin types and ages is wildly appealing, and this definitely does deliver.  The texture is fantastic and it works well, cutting through makeup, sunblock and assorted shmutz without drying.  Application is easy and effective, and goodies like avocado and jojoba oils and vitamin E work in concert to clean and moisturize.

So what’s my problem?

It is so smelly.  True to its name, this stuff is mighty fleur-y, and I have been cursed with a bionic and finicky nose.  I am always looking for a great cleanser, but the fragrance is simply too strong for me.

FINAL VERDICT – ICW (It Can Wait) – I’m on the fence with this one.  If I wasn’t so sensitive to smell or this one appealed to me more then I would be all over this stuff.  at $35 for 3.4 oz or $46.50 for 6.7 oz, it isn’t cheap, but it’s a complete workhorse with a luxe feel worthy of its pricetag.  If a strong scent doesn’t put you off then give Gerda a chance.

SPA SPC SWEET ALMOND EYE BALM – Ok, I’m obsessed with eye cream, eye oil, eye serum…anything that will help prevent my eyes from giving away my real age.  🙂 So when I received a free sample of Sweet Almond Eye Balm, a product by Spa SPC out of the UK, I was thrilled to give it a whirl.  First, the good news – I love almond-smelling-anything, so the fragrance is extremely pleasant.  Also great is the product’s moisturizing qualities.  I definitely noticed a difference – the lines underneath my eyes looked almost instantly smoother and felt less taught.  My chief complaint is that the balm is a true balm in that it’s not too easy to spread over the delicate eye area like most eye products.  With this one, you have to use light muscle.

FINAL VERDICT – ICW (IT CAN WAIT) – Sweet Almond Eye Balm is a nice addition to my ever-growing collection of eye miracle-workers, though I’m not sure I’d own it if I hadn’t received it for free.

PAULA DORF PERFECT ILLUSION FOR LIPS – This is intended to put an end to lipstick bleed. As with many lip plumpers, it contains paraffin wax that coats the fine lines and cracks. I didn’t see any plumping but it smoothed my lips adequately. For me, it just adds one more step to my beauty routine that didn’t have a big enough impact to justify doing it every time I put on lipstick. There is another formula in the PD range, PAULA DORF PERFECT ILLUSION FOR EYES,  that is meant for smoothing crows feet and is applied all around the eyes. Having tried both of these, I was pretty underwhelmed by their performance. Both also contain emollients like sesame oil, aloe vera and some vitamin C but I wouldnt buy either of them again.

FINAL VERDICT – ICW (IT CAN WAIT) –  $24 each, and the results are nothing dramatic. I tried the ROC COMPLETE LIFT EYE PEN and I was much more pleased with the effects for $18.
