oatmeal
January is National Oatmeal Month and believe it or not you can enjoy this grain in your beauty routine. A breakfast staple for years, oats actually have a very lengthy history in health and beauty treatments. They can be found in hair, face, and body products because of its soothing and moisturizing qualities. Here are a few of our favorite oat-packed beauty products to keep you feeling soft and refreshed.

When it comes to oats, you can count on Aveeno, which has been utilizing the moisturizing and hydrating properties of oats since 1945. Its latest launch is no exception. We especially love Aveeno Nourish+ Dandruff Control ($7.99), a mild cleansing formulation of naturally-derived oat and pyrithione zinc, an anti-dandruff ingredient that combats dandruff to relieve hair and scalp from itch. Available in February 2013, this shampoo is gentle on color-treated hair and delivers healthy, beautiful, flake-free locks in no time.

For those with relaxed hair, oats can strengthen and protect your tresses. Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Shampoo ($18) is formulated with coconut and oat-derived cleansers to deliver a delicious fragrant and rich lather to gently clean the scalp and hair. This shampoo has been clinically proven to help strengthen and protect hair, minimize future damage caused by heating tools and chemical treatments, and remove impurities and product buildup without stripping your natural, or salon-colored, hair. And inindependent studies conducted on both natural and relaxed hair textures of Latin, African-American, and Caucasian participants, after just one use of the shampoo (and conditioner), participants felt that they experienced 96% less breakage.

For an anti-aging treatment that rebuilds the bonds between your collagen, elastin, and skin cells to give you firmer, younger-looking skin, Clarins Extra-Firming Day Cream for All Skin Types ($82) is just the product. Formulated with hyaluronic acid and oat sugars, this cream reduces the appearance of wrinkles upon application. Lemon, thyme, green banana, and bocoa extracts increase skin elasticity for a more vibrant complexion and the soft texture of the lotion gives your face a matte finish. Creates a great canvass for makeup application with nary a worry about an oily complexion.

Dermalogica

Perfect for the winter, Dermalogica Climate Control Lip Treatment ($8.50) works fights the effects of harsh outdoor cold or intense indoor dryness. Your lips will be spared chapping, redness, and dryness with Dermalogica’s “Anti-Ozonate Complex” as well as a few other natural components. Oat extract, combined with vitamin E, boosts the skin’s natural defense system against environmental aggressors, shea butter enriches the barrier function of your skin, and lavender extract helps keep each application bacteria free.
