BODY LOTIONS GO AEROSOL
Body lotions, the typically richer-than-dessert cosmetic cabinet staples, are shedding a few pounds thanks to compressed air technology. Dubbed “continuous sprays,†these new hydrating products emulate the more commonplace sunscreen delivery systems. The idea here is to make lotions easier to apply, and help them absorb faster and more evenly onto the skin. Vaseline’s “Spray & Go†that debuted earlier this year may have set a trend; here are a few new ones to try.
St. Ives Fresh Hydration Lotions ($5.99)
These spray lotions promise even, spreadable coverage, and the result is hydrated skin within seconds, not minutes, thanks to natural moisturizers gylcerin and shea butter. Three non-cloying scents comprise the collection, which includes the energizing Citrus and Vitamin C option (my personal favorite), a Coconut Milk and Orchid variety, and a Soothing Oatmeal and Shea Butter version that is perfect for the colder months.
When asked about the thinking behind these lotions, St. Ives’ Research & Development department said that it was aware that consumers “want to use lotions regularly, but don’t due to some feeling heavy and greasy.” The result is freshly moisturized skin, without that heavy lotion feel.
Having tried these lotions, which are not sticky but as light as a cool spray, I love them even for winter use because they moisturize with the same intensity as a thick, buttery lotion. Since they’re affordable, you can stock up on all three varieties and use a different one each day to enjoy the even spray application.

Quick on the heels of the brand’s update of facial care products, the Chicago-based H2O Plus debuted this marine-based body lotion blended with provitamins. The company’s claim that this lotion goes on as “light as water†makes this a cool companion for the next muggy vacation.

Located at the halfway mark between a lotion and a spray, this milky number taps into various moisturizers from coconut to babassu oils. This one is for the tropical fragrance fanatics.
