BEAUTY GIFT GUIDE: NORDSTROM BEAUTY EXPERT Q&A
Few things sparkle and say beauty like Nordstrom’s beauty department, especially if you’re in a pinch and running short of breath and time. From La Mer to Estee Lauder, Nordstrom’s beauty department is an elegant display of the creme de la creme. Which is why, in order to whet your appetite for last minute shopping, we interviewed Beauty Stylist Megan Dugan from Nordstrom, The Grove in Los Angeles to get a sense of what to buy this holiday season, and what’s trending.
BITB: How are Nordstrom Beauty’s Holiday offerings different this year?
Deborah Lippman R&B Mini Nail Lacquer, Nordstrom Exclusive (All Photo Credits: Nordstrom)
MD: Nordstrom’s holiday offerings this year are amazing! Every line we carry has something special to offer and many offered with an emphasis on value. Our special offers make it easy to maximize your dollars and take care of everyone on your list… including you! This season, we also have a large selection of smaller sizes to offer our customers. These little luxuries are pocketsize treasures that are perfect for stockings, secret Santas or self–indulgent treats. One of my must haves is the Deborah Lippmann R&B mini nail lacquer duet (a Nordstrom Exclusive). It includes two nail colors: Between the Sheets and Happy Birthday, plus a glittery bag that is super festive, for only $19. Roller-ball fragrances are extremely portable and make it easy to refresh throughout the day; my favorite this season is Trish Trish McEvoy’s Sexy #9 for $25. Brands have also done a great job offering an entire look in one purse size, portable kit. Two that are at the top of my customers lists are Bobbi Brown Hot Cocoa Palette, which includes eight eye shadows and a full-size blush for $80. Laura Mercier’s Lip and Cheek Palette is also a favorite—it includes four eye shadows, two cheek colors, and a lip-gloss for only $45.
BITB: Are you seeing any trend growth regarding certain brands?
Marc Jacobs’ Honey Gift Set ($94)
MD: At Nordstrom, it’s really easy to see what brands customers are asking for. It’s been really inspiring because they are doing more and more reading on blogs and coming in looking for products they’ve heard about. We’ve seen a big jump in home fragrances, candles and diffusers. Another big thing customers have been crazy about is mascara! People aren’t just buying one kind and one color anymore, they are creating an entire mascara wardrobe.
BITB: What’s your number one holiday best seller so far?
Diptyque Pine Bark Candle ($68)
NEST Fragrances Holiday Diffuser ($38)
MD: Our number one holiday seller here at the Grove in Los Angeles, CA, has by far been home fragrance. Everyone loves candles and diffusers and with brands like Diptique, Jo Malone, Nest, Trish McEvoy, Voluspa, and Antica Farmacista here in our store, we have so many options. I love candles and think they are so personal especially when someone chooses a scent specifically for you. It’s also hard to resist getting something for yourself when the scents this year are so intoxicating. My favorites are Diptyque 34, Jo Malone Dark Amber Ginger Lily, Nest Wasabi Pear, and NARS Oran (white candle).
