7 SECRETS OF SLEEPING BEAUTIES
Sleep is a beautiful thing. But so many of us don’t get enough of it, which results in puffy eyelids, dark circles, a sallow complexion, and premature aging. According to the CDC, poor sleep can lead to depression, obesity, diabetes, hypertension and then some. Even an extra hour or two a day can make you feel better and look better (and younger).
Beautyinthebag asked sleep expert, Robin B. Palmer, CLTC, LTCP, the creator of My Wake UP Call® Motivational Alarm Clock Messages®, My Daily Inspirations™ and My Good Night Messages™, for some of her expert tips on how to get your beauty sleep and live better.
1. Meditate
Before you go to sleep at night, take a moment to visualize yourself healthy and fit and filled with positive energy. Then allow your subconscious to go to work for you in your dreams.
2. Hydrate
Keep a glass or bottle of water by your bed to keep your cells quenched throughout the night.
3. Create a Sleep-Inducing Environment
A quiet, dark, and cool environment can help promote sound slumber. Limit your bedroom activities to sleep and romance only. Keeping computers, TVs, and work materials out of the room will strengthen the mental association between your bedroom and sleep.
4. Just Lie There
At night, when you lay yourself down to sleep, just say no to turning on your electronic devices and checking your email. If you don’t want your subconscious mind to have you tossing and turning all night, steer clear of the negative noise and electronic energy of your devices before bedtime.
5. Deep Breathing
Do this easy exercise to de-stress and oxygenate your brain cells right from your bed. Close your eyes, and inhale through your nose slowly for seven counts, hold the breath for seven counts, then exhale slowly through your nose for seven counts, and hold again for seven counts. Repeat this breathing pattern three or more times and you’ll feel more relaxed.
6. Watch What You Ingest
Avoid stimulants like caffeine, sugar, nicotine and other sleep interfering chemicals in the evening.
7. Try Aromatherapy
Gently massage 5 drops of essential lavender oil into the soles of your feet before getting into bed. It will relax your entire body, and will make your room smell wonderful as well.
