Gwen Stefani is known for a lot of things. Her singing, songwriting, clothing label, love life, and incredible sense of style which includes her statement-making trademark platinum locks. A recent interview with Stefani’s longterm hairstylist Danilo has revealed that her hair is colored every week or so and has been for the last twenty years. That’s a lot of upkeep! If this little fact has you wondering how her hair still manages to look healthy, shiny and gorgeous 24/7, the answer is conditioner. That’s right…conditioner.
Apparently, while Danilo is in the process of coloring her roots he also applies a deep conditioner to the rest of her hair and leaves it on about 45 minutes, and afterwards he actually styles her hair using layers of conditioner as well.
You don’t have to color your hair weekly or have extremely damaged, dry or chemically-treated hair to profit from some extra conditioning as well. The truth is that everyone will reap the benefits of some extra conditioning. It helps detangle, smooth the cuticle, keep your color or highlights from fading, and if you have an oily scalp and/or hair you do still need to use conditioner — Just comb a lightweight one through the mid-shaft of your strands through to the ends to get those same benefits without increasing oiliness.
Here, BITB approved conditioners for daily use, deep treatments and more so you can rock your locks like Gwen:
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Conditioner ($25) has a name that says it all. This lightweight conditioner helps you have silky smooth, healthy, strong, gorgeous-looking hair plus it contains a patented molecule to help your hair stay cleaner longer.
Pantene Pro-V Repair and Protect Condtioner ($9) is ideal for damaged, stressed or overworked hair. Use it daily, adding extra to the ends to target and repair dried, fried strands before rinsing well.
Bumble and bumble Mending Masque ($38) will strengthen, hydrate, boost elasticity, protect, and add incredible shine thanks to a blend of nourishing ingredients like Squalane, Phospholipids, Panthenol, Phytantiol and more. If your hair is chemically processed in any way (color or texture) use weekly for best results.
Alterna Haircare Moisture Intense Oil Crème Deep Conditioner ($32) includes Abyssinian Oil to nourish, Caviar Extract to smooth and boost shine and Vitamin C to protect against damage. It penetrates deeply to hydrate, lock in color and transform dull, dried-out hair.
Verb Leave-In Mist ($14) is the missing link. Spritz it on towel-dried hair before styling to instantly detangle, repair, smooth, prevent frizz, breakage and damage, and increase shine, elasticity and manageability. It’s formulated with Moringa Seed Oil, Bamboo and Green Tea Extracts, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Keratin Protein and Hydrolyzed Quinoa Protein.
Drybar Detox Dry Conditioner ($23) delivers healthy ingredients like Argan Oil, Mango Butter and Tiare Flower for silkier, softer, healthier hair, plus it has an incredibly fresh and light jasmine/vanilla/sandalwood fragrance. Simply spray it on dry hair from midshaft to the ends to refresh your locks or extend the life of your blowout.
