Westin Hotels & Resorts is completely re-designing the fitness studio in every hotel. After doing extensive research into guest workout behavior, Westin is adding all new equipment, ripping up the floors and putting in blue light therapy (Philips ActiViva Active lamps), which has been proven to positively influence well-being and optimize performance. They are also going to be the first hotel chain to use the ActiViva Active lamps.
100% UV-free blue light increases your energy naturally, like on a sunny day, but without the UV rays associated with sunlight. Studies have shown that people working in this light indicate an increase in their performance by 10%. Light therapy is a simple and natural way to help you restore your mood and energy levels and beat winter blues without the use of drugs or artificial stimulants.
The lighting will be customized in all workout zones to coincide with the type of exercise taking place in each specific area. The goals is to help make guests feel more alert, awake and energized while participating in specific workout activities, such as cardio.
The redesign will be completed in all of Westin’s 186 fitness studios by the end of 2012. Currently 5 hotels have the new gyms including Westin Jersey City, Westin Riverwalk in San Antonio, Westin St. Francis in San Francisco and Westin Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego.
