What do Tom Ford and Justin Bieber have in common? If you think not much, try again. They were both winners at the 2012 FiFi Fragrance Awards. Considered to be the “Oscars” of the fragrance industry, the awards ceremony took place on May 22, 2012 at Lincoln Center in New York.
A total of 27 awards were announced and each winner was presented with the coveted crystal FiFi award. Justin Bieber, who accepted his honor via a pre-recorded video, won the 2012 “Elizabeth Taylor Fragrance Celebrity of the Year” honor for his Someday scent. Tom Ford Beauty was the big winner of the evening winning three awards, one for Tom Ford Violet Blonde, and two for Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge – Private Blend. Caroline Geerlings, president of Tom Ford Beauty accepted the honors on behalf of the company.
Justin and Tom were not the only celebrities involved in the event. Actress, comedian and Glee star Jane Lynch hosted the event, which saw the likes of Martha Stewart, Nicole Richie, Chaka Kahn and Mariska Hargitay also take to the podium.
A touching “Legacy of Excellence” tribute was given to the late Evelyn Lauder, which was accepted by her husband Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of The Estée Lauder Companies (the parent company of Tom Ford Beauty). Mrs. Lauder, who was senior corporate vice president of The Estée Lauder Companies, died last November. She was a great promoter of fragrance and instrumental in the creation of many Lauder hits including the Pleasures franchise.
Other highlights included Victoria’s Secret Angel, which took home the “consumer’s Choice” Award as well as one called Broad Appeal. In addition, two new scents were admitted to The Fragrance Hall of Fame – 24 Faubourg by Hèrmes for women and Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani for men.
