Skin brightening is sort of a religion these days. With so many effective ways to restore your glow without using hydroquinone, it’s no wonder that kinder, gentler ways to brighten up a dull, dry, discolored complexion are in demand right now. In addition to the widely accepted staples of kojic acid, licorice extract, retinol, vitamin C, green tea, and other antioxidants, there are some newcomers to the party. Getting glowy skin is all about using sun protection to prevent damage, plus reversing existing damage with consistent daily use of an active skin care regimen that turns over dead cells and reveals healthy new ones.
Some new products to add to your arsenal:
Marini Luminate Face Lotion ($98) – This non-hydroquinone product lightens the appearance of discoloration and reduces fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of photodamage. The light lotion texture makes it ideal for all skin types, especially during warmer months where skin really doesn’t need a heavier creamy formula. Key ingredients include variations of tumeric, arbutin, resourcinol, retinol, green tea extract and bisabolol.
SilkPeel Daily Dermal Optimizer ($120) – A new anti-aging formula that picks up where the SilkPeel Diamond Dermal Infusion treatment leaves off, by offering the super skin brightening and potent hydrating effects of the uber popular in-office treatment at home. Envy Medical’s patented Activ8™ peptide complex is the magic bullet in Daily Dermal Optimizer that works to brighten skin for a more even skin tone and smoother, firmer texture. Use after a SilkPeel sessions or anytime. Makes a great day or night time cream.
Farmacy Invincible Root Cell Anti-Aging Serum ($65) – For green beauty afficionados, Farmacy offers some compelling choices in the chemical-free cosmeceuticals category. This is a unique light fluid-like serum that contains a combination of hyaluronic acid, echinacea, vitamin C and other actives to create a smooth, even-toned canvas with added radiance. The formula helps to inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen and provides intense hydration. Ideal for use under a moisturizer or night cream. At $65 it’s a great price for an elegant serum that packs a punch. Apply generously to face, neck and chest.
($36) – Loaded up with vitamin C, vitamin A and alpha hydroxy acids, this facial wash does triple duty as a cleanser, makeup remover and skin brightening toner. Key ingredients include aloe, lactic acid, malic acid, vitamin E, retinyl palmitate, and a complex of mixed fruit extracts to lighten up discoloration as it removes all traces of dirt and debris, and even eye makeup.
