I’m embarrassed by how frequently I tell people that I spent a year in Paris. Then again, I spent a year in Paris, it transformed my life, and I often find myself near tears, wondering if and when I will live there again. Since I can’t just up and move to Paris right now, I try to recreate pieces of Paris at home, and part of that is in my beauty routine. I know it’s working and that I’m emulating the French look because last time I was in Paris, people thought I was French (until I opened my mouth, anyway). Hair stylist Alain Pinon is the “A” in Salon AKS, a shishi salon just off of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The Parisian-born Pinon began his career at Jean Louis DeJorges and moved on to Paris’ Bruno Dessange Salon, eventually working at their Washington, D.C. and New York City salons as well. From there, he moved to the Bergdorf Goodman Salon, and then 20 years ago, he teamed up with the K, Kao Hui, and the S, Susanna Romano, to open Salon AKS. The rest, as they say, is history.
“It’s been such an amazing ride,” he says. Pinon spoke to Beauty in the Bag about his vision, his clientele and the celebs with the best hair.

Barrington, IL-based plastic and reconstructive surgeon Renee Michelle Burke, MD, knows that the whole is often greater than the sum of its parts when it comes to facial rejuvenation and body contouring. She typically combines minimally invasive treatments with surgical ones to achieve the best possible results.
Burke received her MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and completed her internship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, which she followed with a residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn and two fellowships – one in oculoplastics and aesthetics, and another in craniofacial surgery.
