Certain women can pull off the bold lip look with aplomb. Me…I’ve never been one of them. When I go for statement makeup, I tend to shy away from a bold-colored mouth and choose a kohl-rimmed eye or something smoky instead. But lately, I’m liking the bright lipped look — I’ve been favoring it in shades of red, plum and even fuchsia.
If you feel like a statement lip is something you can’t do, I’m here to tell you that you can and should give it a shot. Done right, there’s nothing sexier and it’s easier than ever to make it work. Simply downplay the rest of your makeup in neutral shades and play up your lips so that they take center stage.
4 EASY STEPS TO GET BRIGHT RIGHT:
PAULA DORF PERFECT ILLUSION FOR LIPS – This is intended to put an end to lipstick bleed. As with many lip plumpers, it contains paraffin wax that coats the fine lines and cracks. I didn’t see any plumping but it smoothed my lips adequately. For me, it just adds one more step to my beauty routine that didn’t have a big enough impact to justify doing it every time I put on lipstick. There is another formula in the PD range, PAULA DORF PERFECT ILLUSION FOR EYES, that is meant for smoothing crows feet and is applied all around the eyes. Having tried both of these, I was pretty underwhelmed by their performance. Both also contain emollients like sesame oil, aloe vera and some vitamin C but I wouldnt buy either of them again.
FINAL VERDICT – ICW (IT CAN WAIT) – $24 each, and the results are nothing dramatic. I tried the ROC COMPLETE LIFT EYE PEN and I was much more pleased with the effects for $18.
