Retinol is one of most effective treatments for wrinkles, skin discoloration and other signs of aging skin, but it can be highly irritating, which is why many of us can’t use the dream cream.
Senté’s newest nighttime cream takes retinols to the next level. Think of Intensive Bio Complete Cream as retinol 2.0.
“It’s an advanced retinol,” explains Virginia L. Vega, Ph.D., Senté ’s Vice President, Research & Development and Physician Education at a media pre-launch event in New York City. The retinol is encapsulated so it melts into the skin and is less likely to c

As many as 16 million Americans suffer from rosacea, and despite being such a common skin disorder, much remains to be learned about its causes and dermatologists continue to explore new treatments. In fact, a new rosacea classification system was published earlier this year—and this new approach to diagnosis and treatment focuses more on a patient’s unique symptoms, rather than predetermined subtypes based on groupings of specific rosacea signs.
According to dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie of Image Dermatology in Montclair, New Jersey, the main upside of this updated classification system is the list of associated disorders and diseases that can accompany rosacea. “This is helpfu

The holiday season may be the most wonderful time of the year—but it also has the potential for wreaking havoc on your complexion. From a jam-packed schedule to ingestible temptation at every turn, it’s easy to get off-track as far as healthy diet and lifestyle choices are concerned. Here, six top dermatologists share their advice for helping you and your skin weather the final stretch of 2017—and start 2018 off beautifully.
Don’t indulge your sweet tooth.
Cookies, candy canes and all sorts of tempting treats are synonymous with the holidays, but weight gain isn’t the only threat posed by these little indulgences. Excess sugar can have an aging effect on the skin thanks to a pr
Nothing beats having great tools at your disposal. Brushes make it easy to apply your makeup and get flawless results, but if you’re not cleaning them regularly you can wind up with a lot more than you bargained for.
Jeanine Downie, M.D., board certified dermatologist and director of Image Dermatology P.C. in Montclair, NJ, recommends “cleaning your brushes at least once every two weeks—more often if you have oily skin—to prevent dirt and bacteria getting on your face, which can block pores and may cause acne breakouts.” She also says “bacteria around the eyes can lead to stys and eyelash shedding.” Not the look you were going for!
TO CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES PROPERLY
- Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and some baby shampoo.
- Gently swirl your makeup brush(es) in the bowl, avoiding the part of the brush where the handle meets the head.
- Rinse the brush tip under running water. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the water runs clear.
- Gently squeeze out the excess water with a clean towel and reshape the brush head.
- To prevent mildew and misshapen bristles, air-dry by letting the brush hang off the edge of a counter.
ANTI-MICROBIAL BRUSH PICKS
Whether you prefer natural or synthetic brushes keep in mind that cutting-edge antimicrobial technology can minimize the growth of harmful bacteria and keep brushes fresher for longer, plus they're appropriate for even the most sensitive skin. You'll still want to wash them just as often to keep them hygienic but think of it as a little added insurance against acne and less lush lashes.
