Shampoos and conditioners are no longer the predictable wallflowers from your grandmother’s days: they’ve gone niche and aim to surprise by their depth and breadth of options. A new breed of haircare has raised the bar considerably for those willing to explore—there’s something for everyone, from coarse hair, to split ends, and, of course, color-treated locks.
Beauty has long imitated nature, and the new Biolage from Matrix range with four distinct product lines goes beyond just the updated sleek packaging. There is one collection for practically every hair concern, and the brand’s proprietary Biomatch Technology takes cues from mechanisms found in nature that have allowed plants to t

So you’ve found the perfect colorist to give you just the right hair shade of brown, red or blonde to complement your skin tone. She (or he) is not cheap, but worth every penny. So what’s the best way to preserve that color between visits to the salon? Are color-protecting shampoos the way to go, or are they just another means for parting with your hard-earned cash?
Many experts contend that color-protecting shampoos not only extend the life of one’s color, they help maintain gloss and shine as well. Biolage by Matrix Conditioning Balm Treatment – I was ready to give up on hydrated hair until Springtime, until I uncovered a stash of Biolage products under the bathroom sink. I have tried a few conditioners in my day, but have either found them to be too watery or too thick for my fine, yet ample hair. The formula is just the right consistency to run through wet strands without pulling too many out in the process. This can sometimes be a problem for me since I have longer hair, which combined with seasonal dryness, makes for a bad combination when attempting to spread evenly through to the ends. I leave this balm in for a few minutes, rise and air or blow dry for really pleasing results. Ladies, let me tell you, I am now a believer in smooth tresses both in and out of season.
Final Verdict – RDW (Run Don’t Walk) – I’m not surprised this was an Allure Reader’s Choice Award Winner. It actually does what it claims to do. Plus, it smells like you just had a professional wash at the salon!
