Aside from Charlize Theron’s mismatched diamond chandelier Chopard earrings, the jewelry that really got my heart racing at the 2017 Academy Awards were the gorgeous chokers and short necklaces. I was crazy about the Nirav Modi diamond choker worn by Karlie Kloss, the Tiffany & Co. 18k yellow gold and diamond collar around Jessica Biel’s neck and Janelle Monae’s Ellie Saab necklace that looked like it was part of her gown. I’d also wear Alicia Vikander’s diamond Louis Vuitton necklace every single day, even with a t-shirt and jeans.
The success of these attention getters at the Oscars is proof positive that you can expect chokers, collars and short necklaces to continue trending throughout the next few months and beyond, but since these necklaces actually touch your neck, it’s important to take into consideration what you’ve got going on there so that you look your very best. If you have a long, slender neck you’ll look amazing in any of these, but if you neck is on the shorter side you’ll want to choose longer necklaces to flatter. If your neck is on the wrinkly side you’ll need to address it no matter which style you choose.
Significant sagging might call for surgical intervention, but a combination of non-surgical procedures can do a lot to improve diminished elasticity and loss of fat. Talk to your doctor about in-office procedures that can help tighten things up, particularly your radiofrequency and fractional ablative laser resurfacing options. If you’d rather take matters into your own hands, there are also effective over-the-counter neck firming beauty tools and products that will improve your neckline a lot.
Here, 3 BITB-approved ways to help repair lax skin and keep things taut:
Mesolyft Neck ($89) blends Retinol to stimulate collagen production, dill extract to repair and generate new elastin fibers, Vitamin C to help boost collagen and protect from free radical damage and Vitamin E, another potent anti-ager. All are administered through a microneedling delivery system to instantly give skin a plumped up, younger looking appearance as it helps the product to be absorbed more effectively. To use, simply pump serum onto the wheel and roll in each direction six times.
Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Face and Neck Contouring System ($98) will address loss of firmness and elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles, and dryness. Clinical strength actives like Serilesine, Zirhafirm and Macaderm combine to support elasticity, firmness, suppleness and more youthful looking skin. The contouring tool should be used with the cream twice daily for an up to three minute massage as outlined in the accompanying instructions.
Clarins Advanced Extra-Firming Neck Cream ($89) rejuvenates the neck area with a restorative anti-wrinkle formula that softens, smooths and firms. Oat Sugars immediately offer lift and support to this delicate area while Sunflower Auxins firm and tone, and Green Seaweed Extract plumps and smooths. Exfoliate twice weekly for optimal absorption.
