BARE MINERALS GET STARTED: EYES CHEEKS LIPS, 8-PIECE CUSTOM COLOR COLLECTION - Mineral makeup arouses cult-like devotion in its converts, but who wants to drop a ton of bank to test drive a different kind of product? Bare Escentuals, grand poobah of mineral makeup, has addressed this conundrum by producing various kits to initiate newbies. The Get Started kit consists of two eye shadows, an eye liner, blush, mini lip gloss, and three brushes – the Double Ended Contour & Define Brush, Eyeliner Brush and Angled Blush Brush. I tried the kit in Light-to-Medium.
This isn’t my first time around the block with a Bare Escentuals kit, and I think that their greatest achievement and value-add is in the high quality brushes, which would be a very good deal even if you didn’t get a scrap of makeup for the price. These three are no exception. I love the diagram on the back of the box that indicates exactly what to do with the kit contents. The Cream Soda and Rapture shadows are gorgeous and go on easily, with the “swirl/tap” mineral makeup technique that we all know from home shopping. The Tiger’s Eye Liner Shadow was gorgeous in the jar, but it was a hot mess going on. In theory a powder shadow could look beautiful, but it went everywhere and looked sloppy. The First Class Blush is subtle and beautiful, as is the Sugar Mini Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish.
FINAL VERDICT - GGI (GOTTA GET IT) – At $49 this kit is a great deal; even if you don’t find religion in mineral makeup you’ll have three fantastic brushes to show for your experiment. I will continue to use the shadows, blush and lip gloss but I’ll stick to my trusty pencil liner for eye definition.
