How do I know if I really have sensitive skin?


Sensitive skin means different things to different people, and at one time or another, your skin may be sensitive. It can occur in all skin types and in all age groups. You may just be born with sensitive skin, which tends to be fair and delicate and sunburns easily. You may also experience some of the symptoms of sensitive skin at various periods in your life due to changes in your emotional and physical well being and lifestyle. Some people are simply more prone to skin sensitivities than others. Reactive complexions can respond to climate, environmental factors, fatigue, and stress. Heat and sweating, low humidity, cold air, and allergies can also be irritants. For sensitive skin types, stick with light textured, oil-free moisturizers, lotions and milks specially developed for reactive skin types. If you feel a sting, immediately wash off whatever was applied and pat dry. Sensitive skin lacks lipids, which accounts for why it gets easily irritated. Elasticity breaks down and may increase premature aging, but not if you take care of it properly. When the stratum corneum is weakened, the skin’s natural defenses become compromised and irritants like pollution and UV rays can penetrate easier. Sensitive skin needs extra protection to repair the symptoms which can result when the epidermis has been overexposed. Cleans your skin of these pollutants . During the day, reapplying a mild moisturizing lotion or cream like several times a day will help keep skin nourished
