There’s a new minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatment in town– and it’s giving traditional facelifts a serious run for their money.
The Profound Lift is the real deal, says New York City dermatologist Macrene Alexiades MD, PhD, FAAD, at a media briefing about the new Profound technology at Ai Fiori at Langham Place in New York City. The event was sponsored by Profound manufacturer, Syneron Candela.
“I like to call Profound an ‘injectable laser,’” she says. “It truly is the wave of the future in anti-aging treatments.”
The Profound system delivers radiofrequency energy through needles to boost our supply of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid from the inside out. Our natural supply of these three substances declines as we age, resulting in sagging, loose skin.
Profound can lift sagging jowls, define the jawline, tighten other areas of loose skin and add volume to marionette lines (those pesky wrinkles that start at the corners of your mouth and run down to your chin). Profound can also enhance delivery of topical agents. “It leads to fastest collagen regeneration,” she says.
Early studies showed that the profound procedure produces one-third the effect seen with a surgical face-lift, but when Dr Alexiades experimented with temperatures, she was able to achieve close to 89% of what would be seen after a traditional facelift. “This is not to say that every person will get that result, but we know it is much higher than the 33% we saw early on.”
Profound is good for all skin types, and studies have shown that everyone responds to the wrinkle-reducing effects and 95% see changes in skin laxity. It is also a treatment suitable for men who, as we know, are surgery averse.
Another big perk: Profound is one-and-done. There is no need to buy a series of treatments and keep going back to your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon every few months. The Profound Lift treatment takes about 30-45 minutes. A topical numbing cream is used before with icing immediately after the treatment. There is some downtime. Expect to see some bruising, redness and swelling for 5 to 7 days. She recommends her signature 37 Extreme Actives Anti Aging Cream ($195-210) to be applied after the treatment.
The full Profound effects appear gradually with some improvement seen in just two weeks, and results continue to improve to six month and longer. Dr. Alexiades uses an array of dermal fillers to maintain the volumizing effects of the treatment over time.
“I’m happy I had the opportunity to help spread the word about Profound. It’s very exciting to see my past ten years of research coming to fruition and really making an impact on the industry. It’s ability to stimulate elastin production and consistently reach optimal thermal temperatures for collagen production set it apart from previous treatments,” said Dr. Alexiades.
A Profound Lift costs around $3,500, depending on where you are. Find out more at profoundlift.com
