Meet the Pixie Behind Pixi

A makeup artist for over two decades, Petra Strand has held true to the belief that makeup should make a woman look like herself, only more gorgeous. Based on this philosophy she created Pixi 10 years ago along with her two sisters. From her London boutique to the shelves of Target, shoppers can experience a palette she designed to be multipurpose and fuss-free as well as to offer skincare benefits. Pixi’s delightfully light, soft colors are a budget friendly solution for women who crave variety but are consious of their spending habits. Tell me about your “makeup to wakeup philosophy.” 

“Makeup to wakeup” describes that wide awake, just had the best night’s sleep or best holiday look. 

Does your Swedish background figure into your beauty tricks of the trade? 

Yes, nature is my greatest inspiration, and Sweden is the land of fresh water and clean air.  Swedes are big on the good life, the outdoors, nature in every aspect.  We ski, we hike, we eat well. 

What makes your line unique? 

Healthy, glowing, fresh formulas and colours for the busy woman.  Most products have dual or triple usage and all contain skin loving ingredients. Our whole ethos is making you look like “you” just better!  Pixi is all about the best flaw fixers with ingredients that treat, soothe and protect the complexion. 

What’s in your makeup bag from Pixi right now?

  • Flawless Beauty Primer, Illuminating Tint & Conceal in No. 2 – to even out my skintone and cover up undereye circles
  • Pixi Lash Booster Mascara in Blackest Blue – eye awakening colour and eye lash lifting formula
  • Sheer Cheek Gel in Flushed – I dab it on apples of cheeks and lips
  • Rose Lip Treat in LipRose
  • Vitamin Crème from Pixi Skin Treats (not sold in the U.S., but sold in our store in London) – I put this on top of makeup during the day as a skin-refresher

What has branching out into mass market via Target done for your brand?

It has gone from exclusive to inclusive overnight, which is much more my style anyway!  It has also given me instant recognition and creative freedom.

Are you a mom?

Yes, I have two boys.

What’s your favourite cosmetic bag?

An old Pixi one, but we are working on a new bag collection right now. I like transparent makeup bags so you can see what you have in there.
