NO UNICORNS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THESE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

06-07-17 | Posted by

Acting your age is so overrated! Unicorn beauty products have been around for a while now but it’s apparent that they’re here for the long haul. When unicorn beauty is done right it knows no age limit. Who doesn’t love shimmer, shine and pastel shades? If you’re not quite sure what the unicorn trend in beauty is, it basically encompasses anything and everything in the beauty world that’s holographic, iridescent or whimsically pastel rainbow hued.

Want to do “UNICORN” right?

  1. Choose only one area on your face — either eyes, cheeks or lips — to avoid overkill.
  2. You can wear it in a variety of ways on your nails, either alone or on top of any super shiny lacquer, preferably in a pastel shade.
  3. When wearing it on your eyes, layer shimmery complementary pastels such as pink shadow and purple liner or orange and peach and lightly blend.

6 Magical Picks:

Zoya Nail Polish in Monet ($10) is a magical looking, special effect, super sheer topcoat that can be worn over bare nails or your favorite color. It’s long wearing and toxin-free.

Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette ($32) is so versatile you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. The palette is made up of four holographic shades — in iridescent shades of green, blue, ultra-violet and pink — and can be worn alone on the eyes or as a transformer over eye shadow, on top of your lipstick or balm or as a highlighter on your face. You can even blend them together for a custom look all your own. It gives off an ethereal glow thanks to 360° refractive pearls which are dipped in a prismatic coating to catch the light from every angle.

Unicorn Snot Glitter Gel for Body & Face ($9.99) has a name that only a unicorn’s mother could love, but makes up for it with its fun finish. You’ll want to use this sparkly, cosmetic-grade glitter product on your face, body or hair. It’s non-sticky, won’t fade and washes away easily with mild soap or your usual cleanser and water. Besides this pink, it’s also available in silver, purple, gold and blue.

Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder in White Mauve ($25) will highlight whatever area it’s applied to. This shimmery opal-toned super-fine sparkling powder can be worn head to toe, either alone or mixed with your favorite products. You can sweep it onto your eyes, cheeks, lips or body for a metallic-looking finish or mix it in with your go-to foundation, body lotion or other beauty products for a more subtle approach. It’s made of up a synthetic version of mother-of-pearl for unparalleled radiance.

Cover Fx Custom Enhancer Drops in Halo ($42) can be applied alone or be worn custom mixed with any makeup or skincare products. This liquid illuminator is actually made from ultra-refined pearls to highlight an area or add a touch of radiance. Keep in mind that when it comes to these liquid drops, less is more and you can always add more if desired.

Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Eye & Cheek Palette ($40) gives you lots of options so you can mix up your eye and cheek look daily, plus it’s formulated with vanilla extract for its anti-aging properties as well as its wonderfully addictive scent. Also in the formula is Amazonian Clay for long-lasting true wear and mineral pigments to soften and soothe skin. You can wear the shades layered over the matte base and the strobing eye and cheek highlighter, apply the lighter shades to highlight the inner eye area and brow bone, apply the light shades to center of your eyelid so your eyes pop, or use any of the shades as liner on your upper or lower lids. With so many options the sky is the limit!

NOTE: The Zoya, Kat Von D, Cover Fx and Make Up For Ever beauty products were sent for review. All others were tested in store. Opinions are my own.
